Management and OHS concerns -
Everyone in the business is required to read the OHS act and learn and understand the regulations and guidelines provided with WorkSafe to stay safe. The industry itself has a lot of mechanical engineering which sometimes is very dangerous to work with all the machinery which is why there is a lot of signs and information on all the walls surrounding the workplace in order to be safe. We review the OHS every couple of months to ensure that my employees and myself stay up to date with all the guidelines to prevent anything happening within the workplace. If an incident unfortunately was to occur the employer would need to be called on to site and they would be required to fill an incident form out. Work safe will need to be called on to the site and they will do an investigation on what went wrong, how could it have been stopped and the punishment for having this risk on site and injuring a employee. the punishment can sometimes lead to losing your whole business. once the inspection is over all employees and people on the site that day will need to be called to reassure that nobody else was inquired or hurt during the incident. Once an incident has occurred another thing that must be signed and filled out is a OHS foam. With a OHS foam you need to underline and provide the location of the incident and the business, who the incident has inquired or who caused it, what incident has happened and what injuries does the employee have, When the incident happened providing time and date and last of all how the incident happened. The owner of the business should be well aware about the risks in their company has and definitely wouldn't want one of these incidents to happen at the risk of losing the whole business and company. Due to this the owner would need to do regular maintenance inspections around the site looking for any potential risks and hazards such as damaged tools and equipment, spilled chemicals, unhygienic area, slipping hazards, low visible areas and sharp objects. All of these pose a threat to the owners staff and their business so they would need to communicate with their staff about these risks letting staff know they exist by telling them through meetings, emails, phone calls, text messages, leaving notes in the break room/ area, putting up danger signs/ no entry signs and damaged tags on damaged equipment. this lets staff know what they can and can't use also where they can and can't go. Once these risks and hazards have been identified and isolated the owner is the one responsible for making sure that these risks are taken care of as soon as possible whether that be replacing a tool or needing to do a big project to rebuild something or install something new. There are also a lot of little things that the owner can do to make the workplace safer for his staff such as providing them with multilabel first aid kits around the site with easy access, keeping dangerous tools and chemicals locked up and have a select few people with access to them. Also providing staff with the correct PPE and having signs of what PPE are required in the area.
