Kindergarten Art

While grades one through five utilized digital apps as their art-making medium, Kindergarten students created their works of art using personal art supplies from home. For this reason, there are not digital images of the Kindergarten artwork created this year. Notwithstanding, the images displayed here are works of art created by the Kindergarten students of the previous three years

The Mitten Tree-Inspired Mitten Tree

The Lesson: Inspired by the story of "The Mitten Tree," the Kindergarten students created pairs of paper mittens, with a focus on the use of PATTERN and SYMETRY.

Lesson Objectives: Students can give an opinion on works of visual art and design and use materials with intention and care (Visual Arts - 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, 2020).

Collaborative Cityscape

The Lesson: Through an evolutionary and collaborative process, the Kindergarten students of 2017 - 2018 composed this busy cityscape, subsequent to completing the bar graph seen below. Once filled in, each student added "building details" to their already colorful bars which illustrated the particular number of New York City symbols each student counted on their NYC Symbols handout page (not seen here).

Lesson Objectives: Students can recognize that explorative play with materials ca inspire ideas for visual art and design (Visual Arts - 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, 2020).

NYC Symbols Bar Graph

The Lesson: Following a virtual exploration of one of our nation's largest cities, each student was given a handout with varying amounts of New York City iconic symbols. Next, each student counted the number of symbols on their particular hand out and completed the corresponding bar graph accordingly.

Fall Leaf Lines

The Lesson: Following an introduction to the physical similarities between the human hand and a leaf (i.e. the veins, a.k.a. "lines"), the Kindergarten students created an arrangement of leaves using black crayon on white paper. Then, using watercolor paint, each painted their drawing; applying "warm" colors to the leaves and "cool" colors to the background.

Color Wheel Monsters

The Lesson: Following an introduction to the basic color wheel and the relationship between primary an secondary colors, the Kindergarten students used oil pastels to create "Color Wheel Monsters," using only the three primary colors (red, yellow, and blue).

Primary Pandas

The Lesson: Following a lesson involving six basic geometric shapes, the Kindergarten students practiced their "cutting" skills and use of manipulatives to create "Primary Pandas," with primary color oil pastels.

Giraffes CAN Dance

The Lesson: Following the reading of "Giraffes Can't Dance," the Kindergarten discussed the moral of the story; were introduced to 'background' and 'foreground'; 'organic shapes'; and revisited the meaning of "collage".

Lesson Objectives: Students can recognize that visual art and design can tell stories and that individuals will have multiple points of view (Visual Arts - 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, 2020).
