The lesson: Tingatinga paintings, which originated in Tanzania by the artist Edward Saidi Tingatinga in 1968, began with the simple idea of using recycled and found materials to create works of art with brightly bold colors, simple shapes and patterns. Tingatinga created works of art depicting the African animals that were most popular to tourists. Seen below are the 1st-Grade students' version of Tingatinga-inspired art, as they continue exploring patterns as a principle of design.
