In 1st-Grade visual arts, students come to recognize that artists choose their materials with intention to help tell their stories, as they learn to identify how works of art express feelings and discuss the stories portrayed in a personal work of art using the vocabulary of visual art and design. Throughout the process students begin to envision the potential of a material to be transformed so to tell an intended story. As students discuss how visual art and design are used to remember and document personal stories and feelings, they also begin to identify how stories in visual art teach us about each other (Visual Arts - 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, 2020).
