The Lesson: As students explore the commonalities between science and art, as well as the ways in which each domain supports the other, the introduction of scientific illustration was presented. And while the original lesson plan was less "cartoon-based" than the final product presents, through student-inquiry, it evolved to incorporate personification as a means of communicating intent more effectively. For this assignment, the 4th-Grade students created a scientific illustration that explained on of the scientific concepts learned in 4th-Grade Physical Sciences.
Lesson Objectives: Students can research from multiple sources to inspire works of visual art and design as they analyze through collaborative discussion how personal works of art ca be refined to effectively communicate, while investigating the ways in which alternative ideas are generated (Visual Arts - 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, 2020).
