In 5th-Grade visual arts, students will explore connections between works of art from different cultures through time as they infer intended meaning using the language of visual art and design. As students discuss how art reflects diverse social values and beliefs, they will investigate, not only how artists communicate points of view through personal works of art based on lived experiences, but also how popular culture influences visual art and design. Additionally, students will utilize both traditional and contemporary media to effectively communicate intended meaning and be able to justify choices made during the artistic process that resulted in the finished work of art and design (Visual Arts - 2020 Colorado Academic Standards, 2020).
