YEAR 3 | UNIT 1
UNIT OF INQUIRY
WHO WE ARE
Students will explore how their choices impact health and well-being. They will investigate what it means to be healthy and identify habits that support a balanced lifestyle. Through inquiry and reflection, students will understand their responsibility in making positive changes. They will build research, self-management, and social skills as they engage and collaborate with others. This unit encourages students to take ownership of their well-being and make informed, responsible decisions.
LANGUAGE
INFORMATION EXPLORERS
Students will explore how writers share information clearly and effectively. They will read, visualize, and ask questions to deepen understanding. They will learn to use text features and visual elements to locate and communicate key facts. They will write with a clear purpose, plan and revise their work, and begin to apply a wider range of vowel digraphs and trigraphs. Through reading and writing, students will build skills to create engaging and organized informational texts.
MATHS
DATA HANDLING
In this integrated maths unit, students will learn how to collect, organize, and display data in clear and meaningful ways. They will sort objects into sets using different attributes and show their thinking with diagrams. Students will explore chance in everyday life, using words like "likely" and "impossible" to describe events. They will collect, organize and analyse data from a range of sources. By comparing graphs and tables, students will build skills to understand and explain information from the world around them.
NUMBER & NUMBER SENSE
In this unit, students will explore three-digit numbers using the base-10 system. They will count to 1,000, skip count, and understand place value. Students will read, write, and compare numbers, round them to the nearest 10 or 100, and identify odd and even numbers. They will build skills to count forward and backward by ones, tens, and hundreds. Through hands-on practice, students will deepen their understanding of how numbers work and relate to each other.
NUMBER OPERATIONS
In this unit, students will build fluency with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They will explore how operations connect and can be shown in different ways. Students will use mental strategies to solve problems when working with facts to 20, use a range of strategies to add and subtract bigger numbers, and conceptually explore multiplication and division. They will double, halve and skip count to solve problems and model equations. Through word problems and hands-on practice, students will develop confidence and flexibility with number operations.
