I am a Minnesota native. I have one younger sister and she lives in the Twin Cities. I enjoy traveling “back home” as much as I possibly can. I grew up in a small town of about 3,000 people just north of Rochester, Minnesota called Zumbrota. Each summer I enjoy a long road trip along the North Shore of Lake Superior. I have taken trips like this since I was a young girl and enjoy continuing this tradition with my own children. There is just something special about that clean, cool “up north” air that makes me feel at ease, and calm. In high school, I participated in three sports. Volleyball, basketball and track and field. Sports taught me a lot of life lessons. I learned that being part of a team requires hard work and dedication. I feel so lucky to be a part of the LCMS team of teachers.
I met my husband in Mankato, Minnesota in college at Mankato State University on the rugby pitch. He played on the men’s rugby team and I played on the women’s rugby team. We have been together for 18 years and married for 13. My husband works for the US Army Corps of Engineers as a hydrologic technician. We lived in Saint Louis, MO for six years until he accepted a transfer to the Omaha district in 2008. He is from Tekamah, NE so we enjoy being closer to family and are happy to call SW Iowa home. In our home, we support the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Saint Louis Cardinals. We also love camping, hiking, biking, fishing and really doing anything outdoors as a family.
Together we have three beautiful children. Riley; age 7. He loves nature, dinosaurs, math and swimming. Claire; age 5. She has a bold personality and will attempt anything that her older brother does. She loves riding her bike, playing outside and camping. Neil; age 2. He is the baby of our family, and as a result, we all love to spoil him. He is left-handed and loves anything that has to do with sports. My husband and kids are the most important thing in my life.
I have always wanted to be a teacher. I enjoyed playing school with my little sister when we were quite young. I am currently in my 18th year of teaching and this is my 11th year at Lewis Central. I can’t imagine doing anything else. Over the years, I have watched students make wonderful growth in their English language development and in their reading proficiency. I beam with pride over these student accomplishments. I want you to know that I am here to support and guide you in your learning. I can’t wait to see you unlock your potential as a reader. I believe in you. You CAN do it!
