Working with students and helping them to develop problem-solving skills, increased self-esteem, and a positive outlook on life is what makes for a successful day for me at Lewis Central Middle School. This is my 6th year at the middle school. I love conducting various counseling groups on topics such as grief, divorce, self-esteem, emotion regulation, and social skills. Through collaboration with teachers and parents, I am able to help students to deal with obstacles that may hinder them from doing their best at school. I strongly believe that a child’s social and emotional needs are just as important as their academic needs and that through a supportive effort between the student, their parents, our teachers and our counseling staff, we can develop successful students who are prepared to meet the day to day challenges that life brings them.
I graduated from Morningside College in 1984 with an Elementary Education degree. I taught at the elementary level for five years while working on my Master’s Degree in Counseling which I received in 1990 from Prairie View A&M University. I have served as a school counselor for the past 25 years.
Outside of school I love spending time with my daughter and my family! I’ve spent many years attending dance recitals, dance competitions, cruise ship performances, musicals, and dance conventions. Like all parents, watching my child perform and being there to cheer her on along the way has brought me so much joy!
