Teaching career:

This is my 15th year teaching at Lewis Central Middle School. My first teaching job was in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia. I taught at a high school there for 2 years. My next teaching position was in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. I taught there for two years. From there I moved to Texas. I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler, and did doctoral work in Counseling and Guidance at East Texas State University. When I moved to Blair, Nebraska I worked as a teacher at Youth Emergency Services for 4 years. I left that position to work at Hale Middle School in Omaha, Nebraska. Then, began my years of teaching at Lewis Central Middle School.

Early years:

I grew up on a farm in southwestern North Dakota. I am the second of 8 children. I have 6 sisters and 1 brother. My dad was an electrician, farmer, and bus driver during his working life. My mom was a nurse during her working life. When dad retired from work, he and my mom bought a café and worked as owners of the only restaurant in a small town in North Dakota. Seven of their eight children are teachers.

Undergraduate College years:

My first year of college was spent at Dickinson State College in Dickinson, North Dakota. My second year of college was spent at Minot State College in Minot, North Dakota. The next three years I attended college at the University of North Dakota and earned 2 bachelor’s degrees from there. While teaching in Queensland, I took college classes from a University in Queensland.
