Mrs. Dang

I grew up in Lincoln, NE, playing every sport possible. As I got older I had to narrow my choices. Soccer and swimming won out. In high school I made it to the state swimming finals all four years. However, I ended up choosing soccer to play in college. I went to Morningside College in Sioux City on a soccer scholarship. We made it to the NAIA National Tournament my Junior and Senior years.

During high school, I coached a summer swim team, taught swim lessons, and ran little kids soccer camps. This is ultimately what convinced me to become a teacher. After college, I coached soccer at a high school in Sergeant Bluff and then in Lincoln. I currently coach the middle school swim team here at LC.

Two years ago I went back to Morningside to get my Masters in Education. I have both a reading and ELL endorsement. I have had a passion for reading and writing since I can remember. I won a city-wide writing contest in 4th grade that strengthened my love of language arts. This is my 9th year teaching 6th grade Language Arts at Lewis Central Middle School and I have loved every single year!

My husband, Tony, is an accountant. We met playing soccer at Morningside and we still play on a co-ed team in Omaha every Tuesday night. We have known each other for 11 years and have been married for 2. We love playing games and sports, traveling the world, and simply watching movies or our favorite TV shows. He was born in Hawaii and most of his family still lives there. I joke that the only reason I married him is for the “free” trips to Hawaii.

The best day in my life was when my daughter, Evelyn, was born. She is now 15 months old and her personality is starting to shine. She loves anything and everything that has to do with water. Future swimmer! Evelyn also loves books! She has her favorite books that we read at least 3 times a night. She may look like my husband, but she enjoys everything I do.

Kya is our first “child.” She is a 9 year old husky/collie/golden retriever mix. She may be huge, but is the biggest sweetheart and scaredy cat. Storms, fireworks, and bunnies are her enemies. As a puppy, she had huge ears and literally ate my student’s graded papers. I have photo evidence!
