Year Cycle: 1
Primary Years Programme: Sharing the planet
Topic: Destination out of space
Module 6
Orchard class have had a very busy start to the term and we have had so much fun. It has been very warm and we have enjoyed going out into the community to practice our communication and money handling skills too. We have used money to buy an ice cream to cool down after a trip to the shops.
Some of the objectives we are working towards are:
I can identify things we (or adults we know) might spend money on, such as food, clothes and things we need to help us live.
I can identify places or situations where money is used to pay for things.
Orchard class had the most wonderful sports day. We took part in various activities, including lots of races. We particulary enjoyed the sack races and running races. We even watched our families join in on the races. The bouncy castle was also a firm favourite. We showed support for our peers and cheered them on when it wasn't our turn. In PE, we have focused on how to sprint and how to use our arms, legs and head to accelerate during a race too. It was great to be able to put these skills into practice during the events at sports day.
Students have loved the competition in class of our bake off theme in cooking this term. Every week, each group has created recipes, all with slightly different ingredients. We have made different flavoured jam tarts, plain and chocolate chip shortbread, and plain or raspberry flapjacks. We have then tasted them and created a tally chart as a class to vote for our favourite looking and best tasting recipe.
In science and geography, we have been learning about space. We have named and ordered the planets in our solar system and explored the features of the different planets. We have researched the planets too during ICT using our chromebooks and found images of the different planets, and practiced our typing skills too. In science, we have completed some messy experiments to demonstrate what happens during a volcano and earthquake.
Some of the objectives we have been working on:
I can understand the scientific use of some simple vocabulary.
I can make generalisations, connections and predictions from regular experience.
