Line of Inquiry: Different people help us live and grow.
Module 3
Coast Class have had a brilliant return to school. We have all settled extremely well and have developed new skills over the holidays which has been incredible to share with our friends.
This term we have lots of exciting activities planned. In art we will be looking at Eric Carle the author of the hungry caterpillar, we will be using all of our senses to explore the different seasons. In cooking we will be taking a trip around the world and tasting different flavours from around the world. We will be exploring our locational knowledge and have already taken part in an in school treasure hunt following our very own treasure map. We are also teaming up with our neighbouring class Orchard to enter a baking competition. Our sensory story this term is the Gruffalo which is one of our favourites. In Science we will be looking at different plants and will be exploring the outside areas to support our explorations. On wednesdays we will continue to share our phase activity afternoons working on our social and communication skills.
Learning Objective: To use my Kaye walker to transition to all key areas around the school.
Learning Objective: To use previous knowledge during sensory experiences to prepare for a haptic experience.
Learning Objective: To return my spoon/ fork to my plate after eating from it.
Module 2
Transdisciplinary Theme: Who are we?
Central Idea: Understanding myself and others helps me develop
Line of Inquiry: Our senses tell us about the world
Coast class have had a brilliant term working on a range of exciting sensory activities. We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our central idea ‘Different people help us live and grow’. We have worked hard to identify people within our lives looking at photos and recordings of loved ones and friends. We have worked especially hard on our cognition targets alongside our transdisciplinary theme ‘Who we are’. Identifying who we are using mirrors, photos and videos. Whilst working on our PSPD targets of self care and communication targets of conveying our wants and needs.
In science we have looked into different habitats and have explored a range of very messy tuff trays. Our most favourite being a slimy pond where frogs and other minibeasts reside. In History we have explored sessions themed around different Kings and Queens, we really enjoyed exploring the Queen of hearts with a sensory tray filled with all things red including jam tarts.
Our Wednesday afternoons have become our favourite sensory sessions. Where we have shared a range of activities with our peers throughout the phase. We have joined in with dance sessions, sensory cooking, ECT exploration and messy stations. It has been amazing to share some new interactions with new friends and we have been able to increase our communication skills with a wider range of experiences.
Learning Objective:To look at and then explore the contours of a tactile object.
Learning Objective: To transfer gaze between an object and a familiar adult.
Learning Objective: To share my space with unfamiliar peers.
Module 1
Transdisciplinary Theme: Who are we?

Line of Inquiry: Our senses tell us about the world
Coast class have had a fabulous start to the year exploring how ‘our senses tell us about the world’. We have welcomed new friends into the class and have had a brilliant time getting to know them. We have enjoyed a range of sensory activities that has motivated our learning, from sticky goop to smelly balloons.
In Art we have created the most incredible tree of life in the style of Gustav Klimt. We have worked on this project each week adding different tactile elements.
During Science we have explored Electricity, investigating a range of cause and effect and light toys. We then took a trip through London as part of our sensory story in which we all starred. During History we used building bricks and our motor skills to explore the great fire of london. We particularly enjoyed knocking the bridge down and rebuilding it.
We are very much looking forward to another brilliant term with lots of sensory play ahead.
