Primary Years Programme: Sharing the planet
Topic: Destination out of space
Module 6
The students in Forest class have been working on their phonics targets, including a focus sound for the week. We have been identifying words beginning with the focus sound, and matching objects to symbols and words to support us in our word reading. During maths we have continued to work on our shape, space and measure targets, exploring big and small objects, and identifying properties of 2D and 3D shapes. During our topic inquiry sessions we have been learning more about space, particularly focusing on planets and the galaxy, creating galaxy sensory bottles and exploring moon sand.

Module 4
The students in Forest class have been focusing on money in maths, identifying the value of different coins and using these in functional situations to pay for their snack. The students are going to be applying these skills in real life situations when visiting New Ash Green to purchase snacks as part of our Geography sessions, where we are exploring the local area. This week the students in Forest class walked into New Ash Green village, identifying various buildings and shops by matching the picture to the real building. Forest class are continuing to focus on their communication skills, using a variety of communication aids to help us such as signing, communication books and chatting sheets.
