The Korean War

Introduction

The first major confrontation of the Cold War, the Korean War was a confrontation between socialism and capitalism.  Korea, a colony of Japan until the end of World War II, found itself jointly occupied by Soviet and American forces at the end of the war.  Competing governments were established in each occupation zone, and a brutal war to reunify the peninsula by force of arms.
