Introduction
The post-war American economy was utterly without presecendent in world history. Alone among the great powers of the world, the United States remained largely undamaged by the horrors of World War II and so was able to enter the post-war period in a powerful position. The economy grew at a fantastic rate, unions were strong, wages were high, and everyone was experiencing a rising standard of living.
