Introduction
The Civil Rights Movement refers to the post-WWII movement by African-Americans to expand civil rights and to create a more equal American society. Though previous efforts on behalf of African-American civil rights have floundered, notably Reconstruction and the Harlem Renaissance, this new effort built upon those experiences and was able to achieve an end to de jure segregation. However, inequities continue to linger and the struggle continues today.
