We have had a wonderful week at school, enjoying lots of sunshine and making the absolute most of our fantastic field. It has been wonderful to see the children working so hard to share and play well together during break and lunch times as well as PE and Forest School sessions.

Working together was a focus for our whole school assembly this week, where we reflected on building community together. We discussed how school is a place where we all have our part to play to make it a kind, safe, and enjoyable place for everyone and we thought about our shared aspirations for our school community.

Staying safe in the sun

With the beautiful weather set to continue, we want to make sure everyone stays safe and comfortable. Please remember to apply suncream to your child before they arrive at school each morning. To ensure they remain protected throughout the day, perhaps consider longer-lasting, once-a-day suncream products. Additionally, please send your child to school with a sun hat with a peak or a wide brim to protect their face. Hydration is incredibly important in the hot weather so please also ensure that your child comes to school every single day with a clearly named, reusable water bottle filled with fresh water.

Summer Party – Friday, 3rd July

The countdown is officially on for our spectacular PTA Summer Party on Friday, 3rd July at 3.30pm. This is sure to be one of the highlights of our school calendar, bringing our entire community together for an afternoon of fun, food, and games. We cannot wait to celebrate with you all! This week in Reception

This week in Reception we have been retelling ‘Farmer Duck’ by writing five sentence stories. The children have tried hard to use specific story language. In Maths we have been working on counting past 20 and the children have enjoyed using larger numbers. We spoke about our visit from the Beekeeper last week and wanted to make some ‘Thank you’ cards and messages to send to her. We have also been busy making some art work which we are sure you will enjoy seeing. We finished the week with a visit from our Buddies, a great way to see us into the weekend!

This week in Year 1

This week in Year One we have started to learn about time in Maths. We started with developing our understanding of seconds, minutes and hours. We then moved onto telling the time for o’clock and half past including drawing the hands on clocks to tell these times. In English, we have continued to build sentences focusing on including the correct structure and including adjectives into our sentences. We learnt about how to identify garden plants and wildflowers in our Science this week. Within our United Kingdom unit, we learnt more about Scotland. We looked at features of Scotland including the capital city, landmarks, food and animals. A particular highlight this week was practicing our cutting and juicing skills in Design and Technology.

This week in Year 2

This week in Year Two the children have worked extremely hard to write their non-chronological reports on their super vegetable. They have focused on their presentation as well as including all of the information needed. In Maths, the children have been learning about directions and turns. They were confident about forwards and backwards but found clockwise and anticlockwise turns a challenge so maybe this is something you could practice at home. The children looked into succession in History and learnt that, unless their parent was a king or queen, they would only be able to enter the royal family through marriage. We also looked at how the rules of succession have changed to ensure that girls and boys are treated equally in these rules.

This week in Year 3

This week in Year three our creative pupils have been busy innovating an exciting, informative text based on a mysterious magical lake. In science, we turned into junior biologists as we explored the human body, learning all about skeletons, bones, and how our joints help us move. In maths we have been sharpening our skills by investigating the properties of 2D shapes alongside parallel and perpendicular lines. In art, the children showcased their incredible drawing talents by sketching some truly amazing pictures of St Albans Cathedral. It has been a fantastic week of learning across all our subjects, and the children should be incredibly proud of their hard work!

This week in Year 4

This week in Year Four we began the first of our forest school sessions. It was wonderful to see the amazing teamwork on show as the children constructed their dens using the natural materials found outside. In maths, we have been looking at angles and shape, finishing with identifying the properties of different triangles. In English, we innovated our model text and began our shared writing, the children were very enthusiastic to share their wonderful ideas. Well done Year Four!

This week in Year 5

What a busy and productive week it has been in Year Five! In Literacy, we continued exploring our model text, "Killer Whales." The students have been diving deep into their own whale research, gathering fascinating facts in preparation for writing their very own informative texts. Over in Maths, we kept up our momentum with decimal numbers. It’s been wonderful to watch the students quickly get the hang of the concepts—their confidence is soaring! Finally, our Design Technology projects reached an exciting milestone as we finalized our bridges. Seeing the students' creative plans come to life as tangible structures was absolutely brilliant. This week in Year 6

This week in Year Six We have had a busy and productive week in Year 6! In Literacy, we used our senses to create a sensory mind map, the children put themselves in Anne Frank's shoes to write perspective pieces about life in the annex. After finishing our class reading unit on ‘The Boy In the Striped Pyjamas’, we watched the film adaptation this week. The children did a brilliant job making mature links and comparisons between the book and the film. In Science, we explored animal adaptations where the children investigated how different animals evolve specific physical and behavioral characteristics to survive and thrive in challenging habitats.

The PTA plays a vital role in bringing together families , staff and the wider community to support and enhance the education experience of all our children. Through fundraising events, volunteer support, and community initiatives, the PTA helps provide valuable resources, enrich learning opportunities, and create a positive, inclusive environment for everyone. Safeguarding - Urgent Online Safety Notice: Sextortion Scam

I am writing to share an urgent digital safety warning with our school community. Over the past few weeks, I have received reports of two identical online incidents involving children in our local area. These are two real cases, involving real children.

In both cases, boys were chatting online with someone they believed to be a girl of a similar age. This online contact sent an explicit image of themselves and encouraged the boy to send a naked image in return. As soon as the boy sent the image, they received demands for money. The scammers threatened to share the boy's photos with everyone in their contact list if they did not pay.

The police are actively involved in both of these cases. They have confirmed that this is an organised, elaborate criminal scam. The perpetrators are adults using stolen images of real children to trick young people. Their sole goal is financial extortion, and they target children across various social media and gaming platforms.

How You Can Protect Your Child

Talk openly: Discuss this specific scam with your children using age-appropriate language. Reinforce the message that your children can talk to you about anything.
Check privacy: Ensure your child's gaming and social media profiles are completely private.
Block strangers: Remind children never to accept friend requests or chat invitations from people they do not know in real life.
Report, don't pay: If this happens, do not pay the money. Block the user immediately, take screenshots, and preserve the evidence and contact the police immediately.

Finishing the Year Strong!

Every school day counts, even as we look forward to the summer holidays. As we enter the final weeks of the term, keeping up good attendance right until the final day is incredibly important for your child’s learning, well-being and social development.

The end of the summer term is packed with milestone moments that children look forward to all year. We are especially excited for our Sports Day on Tuesday 7th July, with Reception and KS1 competing in the morning and KS2 taking the field in the afternoon. Missing these final weeks means missing out on team events, end-of-year performances and vital class celebrations that bring a sense of closure to the academic year.

These last few weeks are also crucial for helping pupils prepare emotionally for moving up to their next year group. Coming to school every day ensures your child takes part in transition activities, says proper goodbyes and reduces any anxiety about September.

We want all of our pupils to finish the year feeling proud and confident. Thank you for your support in ensuring your child arrives on time every day until we break up on Wednesday 22nd July at 1:15pm. Let’s finish this fantastic school year strong together!

HCC OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION: Measles - important messaging for parents

The number of children with measles has increased since the start of the year, with most cases in unvaccinated children aged 10 years and under. Measles is a very infectious illness which can make children very unwell and sometimes leads to serious complications. Sadly, two children in England have died from measles in 2026.

In Hertfordshire we have had outbreaks of measles in some of our schools and cases of measles are increasing. I am therefore asking that parents take the following actions:

Check your child’s red book or the NHS App to make sure your child is up to date with their vaccinations.

If your child has missed one or both doses of MMR, please contact your GP practice to arrange an appointment.

You can also contact your local Community & School Aged Immunisation Service who run vaccination sessions for all ages. Details can be found here:
