The week has flown by with so much going on at Jupiter Primary. January ended in style as some of our Year Five and Six children took part in the Hertfordshire County Cross-Country Championships on Saturday. Well done to all of the children involved!

We continued exploring our exciting new initiative where we are exploring skills to help solve playground issues together. This week we concentrated on the skill of taking time to wait and cool off when things go wrong. The drama club continued to help us as we explored ideas to help us understand how to STOP, BREATHE and have TIME to calm down. The children had some great ideas and have started putting this into action!

We also had two wonderful trips this week. First, year One thoroughly enjoyed their walk around the local area on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, our choir participated in a Young Voices concert at the OVO Arena in Wembley. Well done to all involved and thank you to all of the parents and staff who supported the children.

It was exciting to have the bookfair arrive in school yesterday. There are such wonderful books to select from so do come and have a browse in the hall after school if you are interested.

Have you thought about joining The Friends of Jupiter team? This is our wonderful PTA who work hard to provide community events and fundraise for the benefit of the children. The next meeting is next Monday, 09 February, 5.30pm in the school library. All are welcome.

Finally, next week is Children’s Mental Health Week and the theme for this year is ‘This is my Place’ which is all about helping children feel that they belong. I am sure that this is a theme that you will want to explore with your children - if you are interested, take a look at the event’s website at https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/ for ideas.

Learning this week

This week in Reception

This week in Reception we have been verbally telling the story of ‘Burger Boy’, our alternative version of ‘The Gingerbread Man’. The children have also enjoyed our focus week on Space, painting their own planets and making space rockets.

In Maths we have been focusing on counting and ordinality (saying numbers in order, adding one more each time and stopping at a ‘target number’). The children have enjoyed using practical resources to do this and have talked about their models looking like a staircase.

This week in Year 1

This week in Year One we have innovated our class story by changing the characters and the main points to make the story our own. In maths we have been focusing on doubles fact families of numbers to 20. We had a lovely walk on Tuesday looking at the landmarks we could see around the local area. The children were really well behaved, crossed the roads safely and looked out for the features carefully. Thank you to our parent helpers for your support with these walks.

This week in Year 2

This week in Year Two we have worked really hard on our Meerkat Mail stories and written some very detailed setting descriptions using our adjectives and adverbs learning. We look forward to publishing these for a special display next week. In maths, we have been using lots of resources to help us start to learn how to write multiplication sentences, as well as use and create multiplication arrays. In our afternoon learning, we have particularly enjoyed programming beebots to get around obstacle courses in Computing and discussing some of the names Muslims use for Allah in RE.

This week in Year 3

This week in Year Three we have had assessments in the mornings and the children were amazing, approaching them with confidence and great maturity. In Science we explored the force created with magnets. There was great excitement when the children observed how the magnet attracted the iron filings. In Art we used the chromebooks and an app called sketchpad to create some digital art.

This week in Year 4

This week in Year Four we began to write our innovated piece based on The Tunnel. We were so impressed with the fantastic ideas the children were coming out with and it has been great to see the continued improvement of handwriting. In Maths, we have been looking at finding the perimeter of rectilinear shapes.

This week in Year 5

This week in Year Five we have been planning to write an invented ‘hero versus monster’ story. The children had some very imaginative ideas and we are looking forward to reading their completed stories. In Geography we explored how water usage varies around the world and created posters informing people of some water saving strategies. In Art we prepared templates using string and cardboard in readiness for doing some printing in our next lesson. And in Maths we began using our knowledge of multiplication to extend our understanding of division.

This week in Year 6

This week in Year 6 has been action-packed, starting with our Literacy lessons where the children wrote gripping flashback stories inspired by our class text, "The Kidnap." Every student showcased a fantastic ability to build suspense through vivid description. In Maths, we shifted our focus to geometry, exploring coordinates and mastering the skills needed to translate shapes across a grid. Our PSHE sessions were equally inspiring, as the children researched various charities and discussed the powerful ways individuals can make a positive difference in the world. Well done to everyone for such a focused week of learning; we hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Jupiter PTA

We are proud to have a dedicated and enthusiastic team of parent teacher association (PTA) at our school. The PTA plays a vital role in bringing together families , staff and the wider community to support and enhance the education experience of all our children. Through fundraising events, volunteer support, and community initiatives, the PTA helps provide valuable resources, enrich learning opportunities, and create a positive, inclusive environment for everyone. Hertfordshire County Cross-Country Championships

It was a pleasure to accompany 11 children from Year 5 and Year 6 to St Margaret’s School in Bushey on Saturday morning. The children represented Jupiter at the Hertfordshire County Cross-Country Championships, along with around 400 children from schools all across Hertfordshire. The children ran 1,600m around the school field, through a wooded area and up a very tricky hill!

It was an amazing morning and all of the Jupiter children ran a fantastic race.

Well done, I was very proud of you all.

Extreme reading challenge

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the children who entered our extreme reading challenge. We had lots of interesting and creative ideas! The LVC chose a winner for each phase and an overall winner.

The winners were:

KS1 - Freddie

Lower KS2 - Elio

Upper KS2 - Joshua

Each of these received a £5 voucher to spend at our book fair.

Our overall winner, who received a £10 voucher was Max who amazed us with his indoor skydiving whilst reading a book!

Young Voices

A massive well done to our incredible choir for their amazing performance at Young Voices! It was an unforgettable experience, and I couldn't be prouder of every single student who took part.

I was particularly impressed by their exemplary behavior and the way they represented our school with such enthusiasm and maturity.

A huge thank you to all the parents and families who traveled to support us, the atmosphere was electric, and having you in the audience made the night even more special.
