Dear Parents and Carers,

I can hardly believe that the first full week of the year has finished already! We have loved seeing how quickly the children have settled into their new routines.

Hopefully you have seen the letter I sent out yesterday regarding school uniform, jewellery, and PE kits. We are incredibly grateful for your continued partnership and support in building these cornerstone routines. Wearing a smart, correct uniform is an important part of our .school identity, fostering a strong sense of pride, belonging, and community among the children. It also removes the pressure of peer competition, ensuring an equal environment where every child can focus entirely on their learning.

Thank you to everyone who attended the 'Meet the Teacher' sessions on Wednesday. It was fantastic to see so many of you in the classrooms. For those who were unable to make it, you can review the notes attached [attached need to add these somehow!]

We are excited to announce our upcoming CLIC (Children Learning in Class) sessions. These interactive events are a wonderful opportunity for you to step into the classroom and see firsthand how your children learn. Due to space restrictions in the classrooms, we must limit attendance to one parent or carer per child for these events. Dates for your specific year groups can be found in the list below, alongside other key dates that may be of interest.

Venus took the lead this week with a fantastic 147 points, setting a wonderful example for the whole school. Saturn was close behind with an excellent 111 points, and Jupiter did a brilliant job earning 96 house points. Mercury also worked incredibly hard to bring in a great score of 78 points.

A huge well done to everyone for showing such fantastic teamwork and effort this week. Every single point helps your house, so let's keep working hard, being kind, and doing our best to see who takes the lead next week!

Learning this week

This week in Reception

This week in Reception children have been learning about their new class and settling into new routines! We have been talking about our new teachers, our new friends and our new learning environment. The children have been exploring new resources and having lots of fun using the equipment in the garden to build obstacle courses and ramps. The children have really impressed us with their lunch time etiquette and they are becoming experts at carefully carrying their lunches to their tables. In class we have been telling nursery rhymes, singing counting sounds and creating art work based on the book ‘The Dot’. They have all enjoyed meeting Fred the frog who is going to help us to learn to read.

This week in Year 1

This week in Year One we have started our place value unit in Maths. We have been developing our counting skills and completed a variety of practical activities to help us recognise numbers. In English, we have started to create a five sentence story. This will last for two weeks with a particular focus on using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We identified and labelled key body parts in Science and drew our favourite weather in Geography. We had lots of fun experimenting with line in our Art lesson.

This week in Year 2

This week in Year Two has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum! In Literacy, the children were inspired by The Tiger Who Came to Tea to practice building and completing compound sentences using the conjunction "and." In Maths, we focused on place value by partitioning two-digit numbers into tens and ones. Meanwhile, our young geographers explored Google Earth to identify, observe, and record the world's major landmasses and oceans. In science the children learnt that mammals are classified by having hair or fur. Inspired by ‘The Dot’ the children created fantastic artwork using cotton buds!

This week in Year 3

This week in Year Three we have had a super start to the new school year, spending our first week establishing clear behavior expectations and practicing neat presentation in our books. In literacy, the children have been sharpening their handwriting, using conjunctions, and practicing using commas in a list. In maths we have been looking at place value, learning to represent numbers up to 100 and 1,000, as well as placing numbers on a number line. To round out a fantastic week, we started our new Geography topic on Europe and explored the fascinating parts of the human skeleton in Science!

This week in Year 4

It has been a brilliant week in Year 4, starting in maths where we partitioned numbers into ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands using hands-on resources, while also practicing placing numbers up to 1,000 on a number line. In art, our young creators explored tone, texture, and proportion to bring depth to their sketching, and in science, we became taxonomists by grouping animals in various ways, including identifying vertebrates and distinguishing mammals from other animal groups.

This week in Year 5

This week in Year Five we have had a fantastic first full week of learning! The children have settled into the routines and expectations of Year Five really well and produced some high quality learning. We have focused a lot in all subjects on ensuring our presentation is as neat as possible and the children have tried really hard to implement this. In our English lessons we have been revisiting skills and knowledge with a focus on using fronted adverbials for time, place and manner. In maths, we have begun our unit of place value and number. There was also lots of excitement as we began our new History topic of the Vikings as well.

This week in Year 6

It has been a fantastic first full week in Year 6! The children have settled into our daily routines brilliantly and have hit the ground running across all subjects. In Maths, we kicked off the term by diving into place value up to 1,000,000, see if your child can explain our 'comma' rule for writing larger numbers at home! Meanwhile, in Humanities, we began exploring our new Frozen Kingdoms topic by recapping the location of the Equator and mapping out where the world's polar regions are found. Thank you for a wonderful start to the year, we are looking forward to a fantastic term ahead!

The PTA plays a vital role in bringing together families , staff and the wider community to support and enhance the education experience of all our children.
