It has been fantastic to celebrate book week together this week and we had particular fun dressing up either as our favourite book characters or in pyjamas on Tuesday. Well done to everyone for joining in and helping to celebrate. It was particularly wonderful to see so many children and their families return to school for our bedtime story event.

Mrs Bolton continued to explore our Jupiter Choices initiative in our whole school assembly this week. The skills being shared were to learn how and why to apologies and it has been exciting to see the children use these routines in the playground.

KS2 have shown great team skills as they have been playing with new playground equipment this week. It has been great to see children enjoying hula hoops, ankle ball jumps, skipping ropes and mini football. We are looking forward to continuing to purchase new equipment soon, including for our KS1 children.

Thank you all for your amazing efforts at fundraising for the Great Athlete Visit and for passing the sponsor money in - the total has now reached over £4000. After the expenses for the visit and a donation to the Great Athlete Initiative (promoting sport across the UK) we have £3000 to spend on sports equipment which will make such a difference to our children. Thank you.

Learning this week

This week in Reception

This week in Reception we have had a wonderful Book Week, using the story ‘After the fall’. The children have enjoyed making predictions and linking the text to our Jupiter Value for ‘resilience’. We have had quite the egg theme, including taking delivery of 5 duck eggs. These have been arranged through a farm in Norfolk and we will be looking after the ducklings until they return to the farm next week. It has been wonderful watching them hatch and making observations about how they are already changing. In Maths, we have been focussing on ‘doubling’ and talking about how there needs to be 2 groups which are the same. We also had a fantastic book/pyjama day with some brilliant costumes. And Forest Schhols as well! What a busy week Reception, well done to all of you.

This week in Year 1

This week in Year One we have started our new unit in English. Our new unit is ‘The Kraken’ which is an information text. We have been discussing the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. As part of the introduction to the unit, we have drawn a Kraken for our hook and been delving into some vocabulary specific to the text. In Maths, we have started our ‘Length and Height’ unit. Firstly we compared lengths and heights using the terminology longer, shorter and taller. We had fun using non-standard units of measurement to measure items around the classroom. Finally we moved onto being introduced to centimetres and using rulers. Every afternoon this week we have had incredible fun completing activities based on the book ‘Handa’s Surprise’. We have completed observational drawings of fruit, taste tested the fruit, printed with fruit and created a silhouette painting to name only a few activities.

This week in Year 2

This week in Year Two, the children have been working extremely hard on their assessments. They have had a positive attitude and shown fantastic resilience - well done Year 2! The highlight for us has been World Book Day and seeing the children in their wonderful costumes and comfy pyjamas - thank you for your support in this. The children have particularly enjoyed our Book Week story ‘Traction Man’ and have created costumes for him as well designing their own character and comic strip. We are looking forward to seeing you all next week for parents evening and hope you have a wonderful weekend.

This week in Year 3, we started with our literacy focus on persuasive writing. The children have been mastering emotional language to make their letters truly heart-felt and convincing. In maths, we have dived into fractions, with a particular focus on recognising denominators and adding them together. The highlight was undoubtedly World Book Week, where we saw a brilliant array of cosy pyjamas and fantastic character costumes. We have also loved exploring the adventures of Flat Stanley through our creative afternoon activities, using salt dough, typing letters on the laptops and creating our own characters using scratch. WHat a great week Year 3!

This week in Year 3

This week in Year Four we have had a fun and creative week completing a variety of World Book Week activities. We researched and completed presentations to the class about our favourite authors, designed and made our own bookmarks and even decorated book themed biscuits! It was so lovely to see the wonderful costumes on Tuesday and thank you to those who attended our Bedtime Stories event.

This week we have also continued our fractions topic which included converting mixed numbers and improper fractions. In English, the children used figurative language to boost their writing and looked at how they could control tone within a piece of writing. Well done on a great week Year Four!

This week in Year Five, we celebrated book week with lots of excitement! Students dressed up and took part in many different activities relating to our books; ‘The Explorer’ and ‘Rooftoppers’, all around the theme of adventure. We started our Forest School this week, students took part in a nature walk and then had fun creating dens in groups. We started our new maths topic of decimals up to two decimal points. In literacy, we continued exploring discussion texts and the important aspects within them, as we begin our own writing next week.

This week in Year 6

This week in Year Six, we started by solidifying our understanding of the area of rectangles using the formula Area = ½ x Base × Height. We later discovered that a triangle is half of a rectangle. This led us to our new formula for finding the area of any triangle Area = Base X perpendicular height . In literacy, we continued balanced arguments. While it’s easy to have an opinion, the children learned that a truly strong argument requires supportive evidence.

This week we celebrated World Book Day. There was a wonderfully cozy atmosphere as most of us spent the day in our pyjamas. We used our creativity to create art work inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Jupiter PTA

We are proud to have a dedicated and enthusiastic team of parent teacher association (PTA) at our school. The PTA plays a vital role in bringing together families , staff and the wider community to support and enhance the education experience of all our children. Through fundraising events, volunteer support, and community initiatives, the PTA helps provide valuable resources, enrich learning opportunities, and create a positive, inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome all parents and carers to get involved, whether by joining the committee, helping at events, or sharing ideas every contribution makes a difference!

THURSDAY 19TH MARCH 2026 - EYFS & KS1 Letter Hunt: This will be an in-school event where letters are hidden around the school grounds for the children to find. Each child will receive a small gift to take home. Cost £2.50

THURSDAY 26TH MARCH 2026 - KS2 Spring Party: We have booked Moji entertainers for this event. Cost £3.50

Timings for each year group:

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4- 4:00 pm – 5:15pm
YEAR 5 & YEAR 6- 5:30 pm – 6.45pm

We will not be providing any food, but water and squash will be available.

Community Opportunity

We are delighted to let you know that our school community is able to take advantage of free swimming sessions at Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre. This is part of a scheme, hosted by Everyone Active, called the Adopt-a-School Programme. Any families that would like to take part can sign up for two weeks’ free entry to swimming sessions for the whole family. These are for public swim sessions, not lessons, and children need to be supervised by their own family. Children aged 11+ and adults will be able to access other services for free as well.

You can sign up for two consecutive weeks of free access to swimming from the time you start, so this may be something that you want to take advantage of over the Easter Holiday or at any time that suits you. Full details can be found on the letter here.

Talking to Children about the conflict in the Middle East

Children are acutely aware of the world around them, and many will be concerned about how these global events may impact them and their families both in England and overseas. We cannot promise children a world without conflict, but we can promise them they will not face the world alone and the adults around them will listen, explain, and support them through the uncertainty and fear.
