I can’t believe how quickly we are approaching the end of the school year and we remain as busy as ever with plenty of events for the children to enjoy.

Year 6 have have been very busy… On Monday, they delivered another wonderful performance of 'Oliver with a Twist'. Well done to all involved. The Y6 children had a great time at their end-of-year water fight yesterday evening - a fun way to cool down! There are still two Y6 events to look forward to:

Leavers' Assembly: Monday 20th July at 9:00am for parents (the assembly will be repeated for the rest of the school at a separate time).
Leavers' Disco: Monday 20th July at 5:00pm.

We also had two amazing Rocksteady concerts, where the children performed brilliantly and today, we were visited by a professional theatre company who performed 'The Jungle Book' for the children.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday for our Celebration of Work evening. It was fantastic to see so many families in the classrooms celebrating the children's progress.

Next week is a short final week. As the weather is forecast to be hot again, children should continue to attend school in their PE kits to help them stay cool. We are also adjusting the PE timetable to ensure as many classes as possible can have a short session with our PE coach next week. Wearing PE kits each day will ensure everyone is ready for these slots.

The school term ends for all children on Wednesday 22nd July at 1:15pm.

Learning this week

This week in Reception

This week in Reception we have been busy continuing our work on writing captions. The children have worked very hard and utilised the skills we have taught them through the year (segmenting to spell, reading back to check). In Maths we have been finding missing numbers from a number line and have been focussing on our number formation again.

We were lucky enough to watch some of the Year 6 play and several staff members commented on Reception’s fantastic behaviour. We have also been sharing our favourite memories from the year. From a farm visit to releasing butterflies, from duck hatches to forest schools, with lots of progress in all areas and so many happy memories in between.

Thank you all for your support this year, it has been a fantastic year in Reception and we send all of the children our best wishes as they move into Year One.

This week in Year 1

This week in Year One we have been developing some key skills for year 1 in both English and Maths. In English, we have been identifying and spelling common exception words, using some of the 44 phoneme sounds, completing a dictation and writing sentences including adjectives. In Maths, we have been practicing our number bonds using part-whole models, completing fact families and understanding 10’s and 1’s. We enjoyed looking at the trees in our local area in Science. In the afternoon’s, we have been developing both our art skills and our ability to follow instructions through completing a range of how to draw’s. It was lovely to see the Key Stage 1 Singing Club perform on Wednesday - not only with good singing but also good actions.

This week in Year 2

This week in Year Two, the children have been working extremely hard in Maths. We have been consolidating our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes by sorting, describing and matching. In Literacy, the children have been practicing their independent writing, showcasing everything that they have learnt this year. It has been wonderful to see their imagination flourish with flying hippos and ‘spaghetti yetis’! The children completed their learning on Kings and Queens by learning about Hemel’s links to historical monarchs. It was wonderful to see so many of you at our celebration of work event after school and we know that the children were very excited to show you their learning for the year. The children in the Key Stage 1’s Singing Club astounded us with their singing and actions and thank you to the parents who attended.

This week in Year 3

This week in year 3, the classroom was buzzing with math masters as everyone consolidated their column addition and subtraction skills, laying down solid foundations for the future. Creative sparks flew in literacy, where the children explored the artistry of words through expressive acrostic, shape, and haiku poetry. The children became entrepreneurs to plan and budget their very own theme parks, carefully balancing a strict budget of 1,000 coins to make their dreams a reality. To top off an already busy week, the class was treated to the spectacular Year Six production and some super performances from the Rocksteady club!

This week in Year 4

This week in Year Four, we have enjoyed watching a number of wonderful productions. We watched the fantastic year six production, the wonderful Rocksteady performance and the magical theatre show of the Jungle Book.

We have also worked hard on our arithmetic in preparation for year five and completed our science unit on food chains.

Well done on a wonderful week year four!

This week in Year 5

This week in Year Five was a fun packed week! Students had a great time during their last music lesson, learning how to loop and create their own class song! In maths, we finalized our unit on capacity and volume, students became experts at estimating the volume of different items. In literacy, students enjoyed typing up their finalized information texts and polishing them. In Science, we did a cool experiment with baking soda and vinegar and watched as the balloon expanded, students had to explain the process by which the gasses were released.

This week in Year 6

This week in Year Six has been absolutely unforgettable and laughter-filled! We kicked things off in spectacular fashion with two brilliant performances of "Oliver with a Twist," and we could not be prouder of the children's dedication to learning their lines, perfecting their acting, and singing so beautifully. The excitement continued on Thursday as everyone let off some steam after a year of hard work with a fabulous, soaking-wet water fight. As we look ahead to our final celebrations, a gentle reminder that the Leavers' Disco will take place this Monday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm - we can't wait to see you all there for one last dance!

A final ‘THANK YOU!’ to all of the children and families of Jupiter Primary School. I’ve had a fantastic (and busy!) 4 years here and feel that the experiences and opportunities here have put me in a great place for the next step on my learning journey. Thank you to all of the staff for making sure every day has a smile. You all work so hard to support the children here and your efforts are commendable. I won’t be a stranger and I am sure I’ll see lots of you ‘out and about’.

Staying Safe, Having Fun: Summer Holiday Safety

As the school gates close for the summer on Wednesday next week, we want all our students to have a wonderful, fun-filled break! With longer days and warmer weather, many children will be spending more time out and about with friends and family.

To help keep everyone safe while they enjoy their adventures, please take a few moments to chat with your children about these simple "out and about" safety rules:

The "3 Ws" Check: Before they head out, make sure they tell you Where they are going - Who they are going with - and When they will be back.

Road Safety Reminders: It is easy to get distracted when having fun. Remind children to always find a safe place to cross, stop at the curb, look both ways and listen for traffic - even on familiar quiet roads.

Stay Water Aware: Whether visiting a beach, a river or a local pool, children should only swim where it is safe and supervised by an adult. Remind them to never jump into open water unexpectedly, as it can be much colder and deeper than it looks.

Sun and Hydration: Playing hard is thirsty work! Please make sure your child heads out with a water bottle, a sun hat and plenty of sunscreen applied.

Hertfordshire SEND

Have you heard of the Hertfordshire SEND Local Offer? There is lots of information about support for children with SEND, one of their services is the newly developed Neurodiversity hub.

The neurodiversity support hub is an advice service offering support, signposting and guidance about a whole range of things relating to ADHD and Autism. You can find information courses for parents and children to join, resources and recommendations to other support.

Their service also offers ‘The Neurodiversity Support Hub Advice Line’. The phones are answered by a team of parents and carers of neurodivergent children and young people and your child doesn't need a diagnosis for you to use this service.
