It has been another exciting week here at Jupiter Primary school and it has been wonderful to see all the amazing learning opportunities taking place around the school.

We were thrilled to see the after school clubs start. Thank you to all of the children and staff for making these so successful. There are some spaces remaining for various clubs. If you would like your child to join a club please email in to admin@jupiter.herts.sch.uk to check availability.

We are pleased to be able to invite you to join us for our CLIC (Children learning in class) sessions that are coming up in March. These will take place on the following dates:

16.3.26 - Year Three and Four, 9am

18.3.26 - Year Five and Six, 9am

18.3.26 - Year One and Two, 2.30pm

20.3.26 - Reception, 2.30pm

This time, the lessons will be organised for you to come and take part in an English session with your child. Sadly, due to the lack of room, we need to limit this to one family member per child.

It is so great when we can work in partnership with parents and families for the benefit of the children. The Parent Forum is one of the ways that we do this and we had an excellent meeting this week - thank you to all involved. In case you do not know, the Parent Forum is an opportunity to share ideas and ask questions that will then be considered by the Senior Leadership Team. It is so helpful to hear ideas and feedback - there have been some really helpful points raised. Obviously we can’t always do everything that is raised but we do consider all ideas and thoughts really seriously so please keep them coming! The minutes from our December meeting are attached and we will send this week’s notes around once they have been discussed with the Senior Leadership team.

Could you be our next Parent Governor? This is another great opportunity to work in partnership with the school and we currently have a vacancy. Look out for a letter about this next week and do come and ask me if you have any questions.

Learning this week

This week in Reception

This week in Reception we have been researching foxes and using descriptive vocabulary. From this, we then created our own ‘spine poem’. Check Tapestry for further details. We have also been learning number bonds to 5 and used ‘5 little speckled frogs’ to help us to understand this.

This week in Year 1

This week in Year One, the children have started the new English unit using the text ‘I can Catch a Monster’. The children thoroughly enjoyed the hook lesson looking at clues to work out who and what was going to be in the story. In Maths, the children have continued to develop their place value knowledge within 20. Key areas focused upon include numbers on a number line, understanding the number 20 and finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number. The children created amazing pieces of art within Science this week using the blow art technique to show their understanding of different types of weather. The children have continued to work on our local area within Geography. This week we focused on our school and the different areas within the school environment. The children enjoyed using Bee-Bots in our Computing topic which this half term is focusing on developing our skills to move a robot.

This week in Year 2

This week in Year Two the children have had an extremely busy week. One of the highlights was having students from ESA come in on Thursday to deliver dance and art workshops. The children were incredibly well behaved and enjoyed it thoroughly. This week in Maths we have been learning to recognise coins and notes. The children have then used this knowledge to count amounts. This is a vital skill that we will be continuing next week. In Literacy, the children started the week by hunting for Sunny the meerkat who had got lost and found himself at Jupiter School. The children were then introduced to Meerkat Mail and have spent the week internalising the text. Next week we will be looking at a variety of skills when writing, including using adverbs. In Science, the children took part in an exciting experiment where they were using pipettes to test how waterproof a material was.

This week in Year 3

This week in Year Three we have started learning how to use speech marks correctly to punctuate dialogue in our writing. In Maths, we are focusing on division, specifically working on dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Our Science investigations have led us to explore friction, where the children are discovering why rough surfaces create more friction than smooth ones. We are also continuing our journey back in time in History as we learn more about the Romans and their impact on Britain.

This week in Year 4

This week in Year Four we have been looking at how choosing effective vocabulary in our writing when describing a setting can affect the atmosphere of a story. We also created some contrasting ‘portal’ art inspired by our model text; The Tunnel. In Maths, we have been multiplying by 10, 100 & 1000. In History, we looked at who the Anglo-Saxons were and the reasons for them coming over to Britain. In Science, we found out how soundwaves travel through a medium to our ear.

This week in Year 5

This week in Year Five we have been continuing to develop our understanding of multiplication and using our knowledge to solve problems and for division in Maths. In Literacy we have been exploring our text Beowulf and using a variety of techniques to describe settings and characters. We enjoyed finding out about day and night in Science, using globes and torches to model how the sun shines on the Earth in different locations during a 24 hour period. In Geography we have been learning about sustainability , comparing renewable and non renewable energy sources. Today we will be finishing our guided reading text ‘There’s a boy in the girl’s bathroom’ and writing a book review to evaluate it.

This week in Year 6

This week in Year Six has been focused and productive. In Science, we explored the circulatory system, learning how the heart functions and how arteries and veins pump blood throughout the body. We also launched our new theme, The Rainforest, by identifying their locations across the globe. Much of our week was dedicated to mock SATs; the children approached these tests with incredible diligence, and we are so proud of their hard work. Once marked, we will share the results with the children and send the papers home for you to review.

Jupiter PTA

We are proud to have a dedicated and enthusiastic team of parent teacher association (PTA) at our school. The PTA plays a vital role in bringing together families , staff and the wider community to support and enhance the education experience of all our children. Through fundraising events, volunteer support, and community initiatives, the PTA helps provide valuable resources, enrich learning opportunities, and create a positive, inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome all parents and carers to get involved, whether by joining the committee, helping at events, or sharing ideas every contribution makes a difference! Extreme Reading Competition

The LVC are a collection of children from Year 4 to Year 6. They will be working with Mrs Waters this year promoting some reading initiatives. There first is a whole school competition! They would like children to send photos of themselves reading in an extreme or unusual place. We will ask that you either print the photos and they hand them to Mrs Waters or email them in to Mrs Waters. We ask that the photos are sent in by Friday 30 January and winners will be announced before half term.The entries will be displayed in our whole school library and there will be prizes for the most creative entries - good luck!

Cross Country Trials

It was great to see so many Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at the Cross Country trials this week. I will be contacting families to confirm arrangements, but just wanted to thank the children for their positive attitude and sportsmanship. The children supported each other, showed great determination and resilience when facing some challenges. Well done all, you demonstrated the Jupiter values and should feel proud of yourselves.
