I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. It has certainly been confusing for me all week since I have constantly muddled the days - It is amazing that it is Friday already!
We had our whole school assemblies on Tuesday this week and it was a pleasure to welcome a special visitor, Ndubuisi Uchea to help us officially launch our Jupiter Futures Initiative. Ndu told us about his life from when he was young with dreams and aspirations, working through different plans until Co-Founding his own company - Word on the Curb (an award winning ‘360 audience engagement agency’). We were all inspired to hear about Ndu’s journey and were encouraged to be curious, to learn from our mistakes and to help others along the way. Over the coming weeks we will continue to explore the themes of what we heard and encourage the children to consider their plans and dreams and we look forward to having more visitors to talk to the children over time.
Next week will be a very busy week for our Year Six children, since they sit their end of Key Stage Two Assessments. To everyone in Year Six, please try to have a restful weekend and try not to worry about next week - you have all worked so hard and we are immensely proud of you! Thank you also to all of the families who have supported and encouraged the children.
At Jupiter Primary, we are very proud to belong to The Danes Educational Trust - a trust of 13 primary and secondary schools across Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We are dedicated to our vision of 'making the difference together' and we have been really pleased to be working alongside our DET Trust partners to further refine our reading and writing curriculum, ensuring our students have the very best tools to succeed and helping us make inspired learning opportunities for the children.
The Danes Educational Trust are currently looking to develop the diversity of the Trust Board, to better represent the communities around each of our schools. If this is something that you are interested in to help bring a range of perspectives to inform decisions and promote the wellbeing and outcomes of the children in the trust, visit https://www.daneseducationaltrust.org.uk/1221/trustee-recruitment for more information.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you next week.

Every Day Counts at Jupiter Primary!
As we move through the term, I wanted to share a quick update on the importance of school attendance. We all want our children to have the best possible start in life, and being in school every day is a huge part of that.
It’s not just about the lessons they miss; it’s about the morning catch-ups with friends, the hands-on science experiments, and the confidence that comes from being part of the daily classroom routine.
Sometimes, 90% sounds like a great score on a test, but when it comes to attendance, it can be a bit misleading. Here is a quick look at how those numbers translate over the school year:
100% (Perfection): Your child hasn't missed a second of the magic!
98% (Impressive): Only 4 days off across the whole year.
96% (Good): This is our target for every student. It equates to about 7 days off.
90% (Concerns): This means 20 days of school have been missed—that’s four whole weeks of learning gone.
Once attendance drops below 90%, a child is considered a "persistent absentee," which can make it very hard for them to keep up with their peers.
How You Can Help
We know that illnesses happen, but we encourage you to aim for the "Green" zones on our attendance ladder. Every day your child is in school, they are building a brighter future.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us make every school day count!
Kind regards,
Lucie Waggeh

This week in Reception
This week in Reception we have been writing simple captions and sentences to retell the story ‘Jack and the beanstalk’. The children have tried hard to hold the sentence in their head and then write it down. We have been using the ‘rekenrek’ in Maths to show ‘5 and some more’. You could play this game at home by saying a number to 10 and the children counting ‘the quick way’ i.e. 8; 5, 6, 7, 8.
The children have really enjoyed sharing their baby photos, thank you for sending these across on Tapestry. If you haven’t been able to yet, please feel free to do so as we will continue to share them as they come in. Please continue to support your child with their reading at home; they are making good progress and we want to see this continue into the final half term.
This week in Year 1
This week in Year One we have been learning about directional language, practicing completing turns, moving forward and backwards left and right. In english we have made changes to the storm whale story in preparation for writing our own version next week. During forest school this week we were really lucky to have Miss Vincet join us and show us how to use different tools. In computing we continued to practice using google docs editing the font and colour of the text we are writing. We are getting faster at logging in every week.
This week in Year 2
This week in Year Two, we have been continuing our fractions work and the children have really impressed us with their work on finding ¼ and ¾ of amounts! In English, they have used comic strips to plan their ‘Supertato’ inspired stories with their very own vegetable heroes and villains - why not ask them to tell you their story at home? The children continued to show great curiosity and enthusiasm in forest school when playing “squirrels” to hide and find acorns. Please bring in any toilet roll tubes or similar for next week’s forest school project - making telescopes or binoculars.
This week in Year 3
This week in Year Three we have been learning about time in Maths, revisiting o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Then moving on to telling time in 5 minute increments ie 10 past 2, 20 to 6. In Literacy we have continued to generate noun phrases, similes and powerful adjectives to aid us in writing our own invented portal story next week. In Science we created a shadow puppet to explore the effects of a light source on an opaque object creating a shadow.
This week in Year 4
This week in Year Four we have been innovating our writing using the children’s ideas in preparation for our shared writing. We have looked at the underlying structure of our model text and discussed what we can change and what we need to keep the same. In Maths, we have been comparing and ordering decimals and reinforcing our knowledge of decimals in our Early Bird Maths in preparation for our next topic which is money.
In Science, we concluded the results of our egg-periment which was fun and gross in equal measure! Well done on another positive week of learning year four!
This week in Year 5
This week in Year Five, despite only having 4 days in school, has been another busy one. We have been continuing to develop our understanding of angles in Maths, using protractors to measure and draw them. In English we began writing our own innovated texts based on ‘This Morning I met a Whale’ with some very impressive outcomes so far. We have been working on self portraits using mixed media in Art - we will be completing them next week - they are looking great!
This week in Year 6
This week in Year 6 has been incredibly productive as we reached our final milestone before SATs. We are so proud of how hard the children have worked; their dedication hasn't wavered, even with a schedule of double Maths lessons this week! In our final push, we tackled ratio word problems before diving into the world of Algebra. The children have done brilliantly with two-step function machines and have even begun forming their own algebraic expressions such as “2y + 4”.
We hope all the children have a very well-deserved rest this weekend. They are ready, and we can’t wait to see them all at school from 8:00 am next week for our special SATs Breakfast!
Good luck, Year 6 - you’ve got this!
We are proud to have a dedicated and enthusiastic team of parent teacher association (PTA) at our school. The PTA plays a vital role in bringing together families , staff and the wider community to support and enhance the education experience of all our children. Through fundraising events, volunteer support, and community initiatives, the PTA helps provide valuable resources, enrich learning opportunities, and create a positive, inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome all parents and carers to get involved, whether by joining the committee, helping at events, or sharing ideas every contribution makes a difference!

DFS are holding a Jupiter ‘Anxiety and Attendance Workshop’ for parents on Friday 15 May at 9am in the school hall.
● What is anxiety? – signs to look out for
● Strategies to manage anxiety and improve resilience and attendance
● Understand your child and their responses and behaviour
We would like as many parents as possible to attend as we hope that this will provide some much needed support for our families here at Jupiter. Please discuss this with other Jupiter parents, in case they haven’t seen the newsletter.
Numbers are not limited and we would like to reach as many parents as possible.
This week we are sharing another parent guide that is all about mental health misinformation online. We are aware that lots of our children have access to platforms like TikTok and Instagram. The guide takes you through the risk of self-diagnosis, the lack of filter or oversight of what is on social media, impactful trends and some great advice for parents, that includes encouraging open dialogue with your child.
