It’s been another busy week at Jupiter with so many wonderful things going on. Firstly there were three school trips which were thoroughly enjoyed by the children. Year One had a wonderful time exploring the interactive hands-on science and nature exhibits at the Look Out Discovery Centre. Year Three had a fantastic time at the Bhaktivedanta Manor Temple in Watford where they had the chance to tour the temple and see Hindu culture in action. Finally Year Four joined schools from across the local area at the Adeyfield Academy Speed Stack event. The children had to use their dexterity and determination to test their skills against the clock and challenge others at this exciting and tricky activity. Well done to all of the children involved in these trips, it is great to see you learning in so many different contexts. A huge thank you to the staff for organising and leading the trips and to all those parents who supported to make these activities possible.

We continued to explore helpful behaviours to resolve playground issues as part of our Jupiter Choices initiative. This week we looked at the skills around compromise and making a deal - when both people give a little bit to find a way that works for everyone. It has been exciting to see the children playing so well together in the playground and beginning to use these skills more and more.

A reminder that our CLIC (Children Learning In Class) sessions are next week. We are looking forward to this opportunity to continue sharing in supporting your children together - we hope to see you there.

Learning this week

This week in Reception

This week in Reception we have been focusing on doubling and sorting odd and even numbers. We used the phrases ‘even tops’ and ‘odd blocks’ to help the children to understand the difference. In Literacy we have sequenced the story of ‘The Sleepy Bumblebee’ and we have been sharing this with our friends. This is also available on Tapestry for you to see.

As part of our topic ‘Big Wide World’, this week we have focussed on underwater habitats. We enjoyed drawing underwater animals with wax crayon, before giving them a colour wash to create a sea effect.

The ducks have now been collected and returned to their farm in Norfolk. It has been lovely watching them grow and seeing how they change in quite a short period of time. The children appear to have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Next week, we have Forest Schools on Monday so please send your child in wearing old clothes. Thank you.

This week in Year 1

This week in Year One we have been learning about weight and how to know if an object is heavier or lighter than another. In history we continued our learning on the great fire of London looking at exactly how the fire started. But the highlight of our week has to be our trip on Wednesday. The children behaved impeccably whilst at the discovery centre. We had a wonderful time exploring how different forces make things move as well as playing with light, wind and water. We even had a chance to climb a high tower and get a beautiful view of everything below us. Thank you so much to all our parent volunteers for making the trip successful.

This week in Year 2

This week in Year Two we have worked with rulers, metre sticks and trundle wheels in maths to practise measuring classroom items and even our playground! Parents, perhaps challenge Owls and Puffins to measure something accurately at home with a tape measure to see their learning!

In English, we have worked really hard on using conjunctions and commas in a list to give lots of information about animals - and we really enjoyed our elephant fact scavenger hunt! We continued to learn about habitats in Science, moving on to plant habitats and how plants are suited to their habitats. Alongside all of this, we found time to visit the ducklings in reception class, take our class photos, come to parents evening and take part in a ‘Rock Steady’ musical assembly and workshop - what a busy week! Well done Year 2, and enjoy a well deserved rest this weekend.

This week in Year 3

This week in Year Three what an unforgettable week we’ve had, highlighted by our incredible trip to the Hare Krishna temple! We were mesmerised by the vibrant sari outfits, fascinated to learn about the demigods, and felt privileged to witness a traditional ceremony. The adventure continued outdoors where the children enjoyed bull cart rides, fed the friendly cows, and tucked into some truly fantastic food.

Back in the classroom, we have been busy drafting powerful persuasive letters, using their best vocabulary to sway their readers. Finally, in Maths, we have stayed focused on our fractions, becoming more confident in naming and comparing different parts of a whole and ordering fractions on a number line.

This week in Year 4

This week in Year Four the children enjoyed a speed stacking competition at Adeyfield School. We were so impressed with the behaviour and stacking skills of the children and a huge thank you to all our parent helpers who came!

Also this week, we have been consolidating our knowledge of fractions by creating some impressive fraction themed Maths board games. The children have worked brilliantly showing amazing creativity and teamwork. We have also been impressed with the children’s diary entries in English. They have created some highly engaging pieces that showcase their ability to change tone and atmosphere within a text.

This week in Year 5

It was a busy and productive week for Year 5! In the classroom, students mastered decimal place value and began drafting creative monster stories in literacy. We took our learning outdoors during Forest School to practice safely using various tools, and wrapped up the week with insightful discussions on Britain’s role in WWII, exploring the deep themes of war and peace.

This week in Year 6

This week in Year 6 was a fascinating journey through time as we explored how England prepared for World War 2. We learned about the strict rules of the blackout and the challenges of rationing, but the real highlight was getting a close-up look at Miss Burton’s grandfather’s original gas mask. Alongside our history work, we faced our final mock SATs before the real exams in May. Every single child showed incredible determination and worked exceptionally hard to do their best. We hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing weekend.

We are proud to have a dedicated and enthusiastic team of parent teacher association (PTA) at our school. The PTA plays a vital role in bringing together families , staff and the wider community to support and enhance the education experience of all our children. Through fundraising events, volunteer support, and community initiatives, the PTA helps provide valuable resources, enrich learning opportunities, and create a positive, inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome all parents and carers to get involved, whether by joining the committee, helping at events, or sharing ideas every contribution makes a difference!

THURSDAY 26TH MARCH 2026 - KS2 Spring Party: We have booked Moji entertainers for this event. Cost £3.50

Timings for each year group:

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4- 4:00 pm – 5:15pm
YEAR 5 & YEAR 6- 5:30 pm – 6.45pm

We will not be providing any food, but water and squash will be available.

Head lice

We have recently had reports of head lice within Year 4. While head lice are a common nuisance in schools and do not pose a serious health risk, they spread easily through direct head-to-head contact. We kindly ask all parents to check their child's hair tonight and continue to do so on a weekly basis—a "once a week, take a peek" routine helps ensure early detection and prevents further spread. If you find live lice, please begin treatment immediately using a fine-toothed detection comb or a lotion recommended by your local pharmacist. To help minimise contact, we also recommend that all children with long hair come to school with it tied back as per our policy. Nurturing Childhood in a Digital Age

As smartphones become a standard part of modern life, we are increasingly mindful of how they intersect with the precious years of childhood. While these devices offer a "safety net" for communication, a growing body of evidence links early or excessive use to significant challenges in mental health, including rising rates of anxiety and depression. The Little Princess Trust

One of our inspiring pupils is going above and beyond to support The Little Princess Trust, a wonderful charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. To help, he has launched a GoFundMe campaign alongside his hair donation. We are incredibly proud of this selfless initiative and encourage our school community to show their support. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a life-changing difference.
