Google Classroom - TURNING IN (OR EVEN JUST BEGINNING) AN ASSIGNMENT COUNTS AS MAKING CONTACT AND WILL SERVE AS PROOF OF ATTENDANCE FOR THE WEEK
This is a challenging time for all of us, but I believe the most important factor in making distance learning a success will be communication. I will do my best to be in frequent contact with all of my students. Likewise, do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments, concerns, or feedback you may have. I miss you all and would love to hear from you.
Google Classroom
All of the work that you will be completing will be posted and turned in via Google Classroom. Work will be posted in “modules” with one module per week loaded on to your classroom page. Remember, you have already used Google Classroom several times this year for various assignments, but if you need help logging on, please let me know. You will need to log in to your Google account using your school email only! Do not use a personal account that you may have, I cannot access things from personal accounts even if you put a link in google classroom.
Course Modules
Modules will be posted each Monday. Modules will be focused on essential concepts only – we have removed some content from the course in order to better accommodate distance learning. Each module will begin with a small set of interactive google slides, just as I would normally ask warm up questions everyday in class reviewing content for the current unit. You will then have a couple of tasks to complete including a lab which you can do at home, or I'll provide a video of the lab via YouTube link that you can watch and respond to questions. Then you will have a thinking activity demonstrating comprehension of the skill and standard. This activity could be in the form of a webquest, a small research project or a worksheet. Finally, you will have a standards based comprehension check at the end of each module. You will have the entire week to complete the module and may work at your own pace, but are encouraged to do a little bit each day.
Weekly Directions: Module #1 – Reaction Rates
The focus of this module is on the factors that can either speed up, or slow down, the rate (speed) of a chemical reaction. Please make sure to complete the learning tasks in order. We started this module before classes ended at the beginning of March.
1) Interactive slides on Reaction Rates
2) Reaction rates lab activity
3) Reaction rate critical thinking activity
4) Standards based comp check.
Please make sure to upload everything to google classroom under the assigned module and assignment.
Module 2 : Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions - The focus of this module is to understand the inward or outward transfer of energy (heat) during a chemical reaction. Please remember to do the tasks in order.
1) Interactive slides on endothermic and exothermic reactions
2) Endothermic/Exothermic lab activity
3) Writing energy as part of a chemical reaction
4) Standards based comp check.
Please make sure to upload everything to google classroom under the assigned module and assignment.

Module 3 : Acids and Bases part 1 - Understanding pH and measuring acidity or alkalinity. In this unit we will learn about the properties of acids, bases and neutral solutions. Students will use the pH scale to determine properties of known and unknown solutions.
1) Interactive slides on properties of acids and bases and the pH scale
2) Cabbage lab - pH lab activity
3) Webquest Investigating Everyday acids
4) Standards based comp check.
Please make sure to upload everything to google classroom under the assigned module and assignment. If you have difficulty with this, write your answers down on paper and email me an image of them or text me the pic

Google Classroom - only students can login to their assigned class, but can post questions directly to the assignment.
This week is a very short module (intentionally), so please finish our 2nd week of Acid/Base learning and then take the remaining time to catch up on any previous modules. It is important that you hand in these modules! NTI modules not handed in my May 27th could result in an incomplete for the course.
NTI - Module 4 - Neutralization Reactions
There are only 2 learning tasks and no quiz this week!
Task - 1 - READ the information on each slide and answer the question in blue.
Task 2 - 1) read the scenario, 2) make a prediction 3) WATCH the youtube video by using the link, 4) In 1-2 sentences report what you learned about the reaction and the neutralization of the reaction, 5) state how the answer compares to your prediction.
Call, text, message, google meet, or email if you need help!

NTI- Module 5 - Climate change introduction
This module has 3 tasks:
Task 1 - A K-W-L chart to help organize your thoughts as we begin a new topic. Start here.
Task 2 - This is an introduction to climate change and things people believe about climate change. There are 2 slides of questions with weblinks to help you find the information that you need. Follow the link and fill in the answers. Due Sunday May 10.
Task 3 - This is a webquest, use the hyperlinks to go to the information that you need to fill in the chart and answer the questions.
These tasks are due on Sunday May 10th. I will continue to accept any late work on previous assignments during this time

NTI - Module 6 - Our Impact on Climate Change is posted on Google Classroom. This module is focused on how humans impact climate change. This module has 3 tasks:
Task 1: Interactive slides that introduce the carbon cycle and show how carbon moves through the biosphere
Task 2: A virtual lab with the Mythbusters that shows how carbon contributes to the Greenhouse Effect
Task 3: A webquest that will teach you about the term "carbon footprint"
These tasks will be due on May 17th at midnight. I will continue to accept any and all late work during this time. If you have any questions, please reach out and contact me. We are approaching the finish line. There is only one more module after this one. Stay healthy, take things one step at a time, and let's finish strong!
Remember, students must contact with me once per week. See my contact information below on how to do that:

The final assignment of the year is posted in Google Classroom. For the "Final" this year, I am asking students to reflect on a few questions about this class. Answering these questions will count for your last weekly check-in, and I will give you 100% MASTERY credit for your final exam.
This reflection is DUE MAY 24TH AT MIDNIGHT. Students still need to make contact with me at least once during the week in one of the following ways.
