If your student does NOT know their password, please contact me so I can give you this information.
Step 4: Once you sign into the Google Classroom, you should be able to see all of your students' classes and assignments.
This week, students will be learning about the Cold War. Students will need to complete the following assignments in order:
Assignment 1: Attendance
Fill out the Google Form to be counted for Attendance for the week. If you do NOT fill out this form, you will be marked ABSENT FOR THE WEEK.
Assignment 2: Cold War Edpuzzle - Crash Course US History #37
Students will need to sign into Edpuzzle using their school Google account in order to receive credit for this assignment. As students watch the video, they will have to follow along and answer questions to check their understanding of the Cold War.
Assignment 3: Cold War Interactive Notebook
Students needs to open the "Cold War Interactive Notebook" document. Within the document, students should be able to use the blue links throughout this resource to answer the questions. If students cannot find the answers using the blue links, they may research the questions on their own. Answers should be in their own words - NOT copied and pasted from the internet.
Assignment 4: Discussion Board Post - "How does the Cold War still impact our world today?"
Students need to find a news article that reflects how the Cold War still impacts American attitudes about Russia and/or communism today. Students need to copy and paste the link to their news article at the beginning of your response. After students read the news article, they need to answer the question "How does the Cold War still impact our world today?" using their article as the foundation to their answer.
All assignments will need to be completed and submitted by the end of the day on Friday, April 10th for credit.
This week, students will be working on identifying the main idea and supporting details within a text. All assignments are clearly labelled and can be found in the Google Classroom.

Assignment 2: Main Idea and Supporting Details Edpuzzle
Students will need to sign into Edpuzzle using their school Google account in order to receive credit for this assignment. As students watch the video, they will have to follow along and answer questions to practice the skill.
Assignment 3: Listen to Season 1 Episode 1 of the "Serial" Podcast
I have linked the podcast in the Google classroom for students to listen. I have also created a complete transcript of the podcast to follow along as they listen. As students listen to the podcast, they will also need to answer the questions that are embedded within the podcast transcript. As students listen to the first episode, students need to to highlight information that shows Adnan is INNOCENT in the color GREEN, and highlight information that shows Adnan is GUILTY in the color RED.
Assignment 4: Discussion Board Post
AFTER STUDENTS LISTEN TO THE PODCAST, students need to answer this question on our Google Classroom: Assignment 4: What are your thoughts on the Adnan's case so far? Do you believe he's innocent? Guilty? Support your answer you the two MOST IMPORTANT key details that you highlighted as you listened to the podcast. Explain why you believe those key details are the MOST important.
In addition to sharing their answer to the question, students MUST respond to TWO of their peer's responses. Responses should be written in complete sentences and thoroughly explain their thoughts for complete credit.
Assessment 1: Serial Listening Quiz
Complete the assessment based on the evidence you have gathered and skills you have practiced during Episode 1 and the assignments. You may use all the materials from this week to craft your responses.
Make sure to include the following in your responses:
1.) Clear, correct, and complete answers
2.) Evidence from the text to support your answers
3.) Full, original, and thoughtfully communicated opinions of the case

Read the interview at this link. Then answer the following questions on the discussion board post: What did returning veterans want for their families? What social values facilitated suburban development after World War II?

Assignment 3: Analyzing US Census Data
Analyze the data from the US Census. U.S. Census: Population by Residence and Race: 1950-1970. Look at the first category:
How does the central city population change from 1950 to 1970?
How does the suburban (outside central city) population change? You might want to ask students to construct a bar graph of the percentage of central city and suburban population.
Now look at the White and African-American populations
How do those two populations differ in rates of growth in the center city and the suburban areas during those two decades?
Assignment 4: Suburbanization in Louisville
Use the interactive website to understand the effect of suburbanization and urban renwewal programs in Louisville.
1. Look at the map of redlined areas in Louisville. How did redlining shape racial segregation in Louisville?
2. Look under the "Timeline" tab. Use items 8-10. What was the Bartholomew plan for downtown and how does it show an increasing focus on individuals that lived in suburbs and owned automobiles as opposed to people that live downtown?
3.Look at the interview (#12) under the "Timeline" tab. What effect did urban renewal programs and the interstate program have on African American Louisville?
4. On the "Timeline" tab, look at #13. How did the city attempt to solve segregation in its schools in 1975? What happened?
5. What are your final thoughts on how redlining, suburbanization, and highways shaped Louisville today? Write at least a paragraph.
Assignment 1: Attendance
Students only need to fill out the Google Form ONCE in order to be counted present for this week of non-traditional instruction.
Assignment 2: Digging Deeper into Asia’s Letters
On Episode 1, Sarah Koenig reveals that Adnan actually has an alibi for the time that the prosecution claims he was with Hae. This alibi is supported through Asia McLean's letters. Read the letters for yourself to see if Sarah included all the significant details, or if she's leaving something out to create her narrative. The podcast transcript that covers Asia's letters has also been included for you to compare and contrast. Answer the questions on the Google Form after viewing the letters and Sarah's thoughts on them. Each response much be 200 characters in order to be complete.
Assignment 3: Serial Episode 2
Through this episode Sarah is trying to answer the following questions: "What was Hae and Adnan’s relationship REALLY like? What was Hae and Adnan’s breakup REALLY like?" As you're listening, continue to highlight the transcript; remember, you should highlight information that proves Adnan is innocent in GREEN and any information that prove's he's guilty is in RED. Additionally, while you’re listening, take notes on each character’s perspective on this Adnan's and Hae's relationship. Take notes using direct quotes from the podcast.
Assignment 4: Discussion Board Post
Last week, many of my students had trouble using the Discussion Board post function on Google Classroom, so this week we’re going to try something a little different. Students will need to log into padlet.com using their school google account.
In Padlet, students will have to respond to the following prompt: In Episode 2, Sarah shares multiple perspectives about what Adnan's and Hae's relationship was really like - now it's your turn to weigh in. After you've listened to Episode 2 entirely, answer the question: "What do you believe Adnan and Hae's relationship was really like? What do you believe their break up was really like?"
Assessment 2: Complete the quiz on the Google Form.
All assignments are due by 11:59 PM on Friday, April 17th.
This week, students will be working on research Civil Rights Movements both past and present. I've created a Choice Board that allows students to choose Civil Rights groups to focus on. I've attached the link to the Choice Board so you can see what kind of work your students will be doing!
I've had a lot of feedback from students that they are overwhelmed by the work I've posted in the previous weeks, so I will be scaling back the work this week with only two assignments.
This week, students will listen to Serial Episode 3 using Edpuzzle. The link to this assignment will be posted on Google Classroom. After students listen to Episode 3, they will need complete the Case Log using evidence from Episodes 1-3.
This week, students will listen to Serial Episode 4. As they're listening to episode 4, they will need to highlight key evidence that shows Adnan is innocent or guilty on the episode transcript. After listening to the episode, students will need to add the four most important pieces of evidence to their case log.
This is our last week listening to Serial episodes - next week, we'll move on to writing the argumentative essay to prove whether Adnan is innocent or guilty!

This week students will complete the War on Terror Webquest. Through this assignment, they will explore the events of September 11, 2001 and how the signing of the PATRIOT Act resulted in an expansion of government powers. This assignment is due on Friday, May 15.
This week, students need to complete the Serial Final Project Organizer. This organizer will help them develop a plan for the final project which is due May 22nd. The organizer is due on Friday, May 15th.
