My session will be about storytelling, its nuances and benefits in the classroom.
I am a certified freelance storyteller who is passionate about the use of stories and using it as an effective tool in connecting with students and parents alike. I have conducted over 100 storytelling sessions at my workplaces and outside.
In the session I conduct, I will be sharing my learnings from the last five years, techniques involving voice modulation and expressions which are very effective and essential in bridging the gap between young minds and us teachers.
The session will focus on the following topics:
Techniques/Styles of storytelling. Oral, puppetry, read-alouds etc.
Different Genres of stories.
How to plan a curriculum through stories with an example.
Tools that add flair to the stories you tell.
Session Outcomes:
Making simple puppets.
Workshop on planning curriculum through stories. Have the crowd think through one topic and have one volunteer present that topic as a story.
Bio:
I am Vidya Nagarajan and have been working as a pre-school teacher at different international schools in Bangalore, Karnataka India for the last 10 years. I have been a teacher across different pre-primary age groups ranging from toddlers to kindergarten children. Storytelling has been a passion for me and I decided to take it forward through a certification course from Kathalaya which is a very renowned storytelling school in Bangalore. Apart from doing stories at school, I also freelance for various organizations in and out of Bangalore. I am excited to share my journey, and my learnings to other teachers everywhere.
