CHRISTOPHER CLYDE GREEN
Using GenAI to Spark Critical Thinking
Christopher is an IB Program Lead and TOK examiner
This session will explore how Generative AI (GenAI) can be leveraged to foster critical thinking skills in students.
Rather than replacing human reasoning, GenAI can serve as a tool to challenge assumptions, generate alternative perspectives, and encourage deeper analysis.
The session will focus on how educators can integrate AI into their teaching practices to promote inquiry-based learning, argument evaluation, and creative problem-solving.
Participants will engage in an interactive exploration of GenAI’s role in education, including:
Demonstrating AI’s capabilities and limitations
We will analyse how AI generates responses, emphasising the importance of questioning and verifying information.
Practical classroom applications
Participants will explore strategies for using AI to develop students' ability to critique sources, refine arguments, and engage in meaningful discussions.
Hands-on activities
Participants will experiment with AI tools, designing prompts that encourage deeper thinking and analyzing AI-generated content for biases, logical fallacies, and ethical considerations.
Case studies and best practices
Examples from real-life educational situations will highlight effective AI integration in different subject areas.
Session Outcomes
Gain practical strategies for incorporating GenAI into lessons to enhance students’ critical thinking skills.
Develop AI literacy skills to help students critically assess AI-generated content, identify biases, and use AI responsibly in their learning.
