HEATHER DULEY
Rethinking Pedagogy with VR: Engagement, Incmusion and Immersive Learning
Instructional Designer and VR Content Developer at OptimaEd/Optima Academy Online
It will highlight the pedagogical approach to using VR (and AI tools in VR) as an innovative immersive learning strategy
We will explore what immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences can reveal about good pedagogy—whether or not a school has access to VR technology today. Drawing on my work with OptimaEd’s fully immersive learning environments, I will share key pedagogical principles that guide VR-based instruction: promoting engagement and curiosity, designing interdisciplinary and experiential lessons, and meeting diverse student needs through differentiated, student-centered learning.
I will illustrate how VR creates opportunities for deep, authentic learning, while emphasizing the principles behind immersive education can inspire innovative teaching practices in any classroom, with or without headsets.
Session Outcomes:
Attendees will leave with a clear set of pedagogical strategies for creating immersive, engaging lessons—whether or not VR technology is available in their schools.
Attendees will gain practical ideas for integrating interdisciplinary content, supporting diverse learners, and fostering curiosity and inclusion.
