N.C. Pupils should be taught to: distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock describe the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties.
This module we are learning all about materials and their properties. this gave us a great opportunity to explore our school and classroom so we went on a hunt to find different materials. We were then able to label materials successfully.
In our next lesson, we created our very first, 'Jamboard' where we looked at the different properties of materials and were able to match the materials to the correct properties. We then thought about how the materials were different to each other.
This week, we thought about how different objects are made of different materials. We also began to think about why that is. We had great fun labelling different objects and challenging ourselves by thinking about the properties of the materials they were made from.
This week, we grouped and compared materials based on their properties.
We then wanted to find out which materials would be most suitable for a roof. We thought carefully about the properties the material would need and how we could test them. We then had lots of fun testing them and recording the results. We used our results to help us answer the question.
This module we will be focussing on, 'Scientists and Inventors'.
In our first lesson, we used the knowledge we had acquired about materials, last module, to help us decide why Lego is made out of plastic. We also learnt about the creator or Lego and how it is made.
In our next lesson, we learnt about the pioneer for modern zoos and the differences between old and new zoos. We spoke about the advantages of enclousures over cages and thought about the types of animals that lived there. We then classified animals based on their features.
We continued to learn about types of scientists and in week 3 we became horticulturists. We used our senses to explore a range of plants and then score them 1-5 on how much we liked them. We then created a class pictograms to find out the class favourites.
Next, we became veterinarians and learnt all about parts of different animals. We found out all about the different ways vets can investigate animal injuries and how they could help.
This module we have learnt all about the seasons and seasonal changes. We have used our knowledge to think about what type of clothing we wear each season and why. We have also thought about events that happen each season and how to stay safe in the sun.
N.C. observe changes across the 4 seasons, observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies.
This module we are learning about, 'Animals including Humans'. Our first lessons focussed on identifying animals, categorising by their types and comparing them. Our favourite lesson was learning all about our senses.
This module we learnt all about different types plants. We put back together pieces of plants and labeled them. We also learnt about how and where they grow and which ones we can eat. In forest school we identifed lots of trees and planys.
This module we recapped our knowledge on the human body.
