Town vs Country
After reading The Train Ride and Town Mouse and Country Mouse, we looked at the different features we could identify for the different locations.

Know some similarities and differences between the natural world around them and contrasting environments, drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class.
Maps
As part of our inquiry into journeys, we read the book Martha Maps It Out. In the story Martha draws maps of different places she is familiar with.
After comparing the common features of town and country, we created our own town maps. We thought about the different features we could add.

City Landmarks
During independent learning time, we used our knowledge of buildings and cities to make The Eiffel Tower! We had a discussion about which city the Eiffel Tower was in. We searched on the iPads to see if we could find it. We talked about how close it was to where we live and the different ways we could get there.

Visiting Africa
As part of our inquiry into the wider world, we listened to and read stories based in Africa. We began with Handa's surprise which is set in Kenya. We looked at the pictures within the story and also photos from Kenya. We then compared it to life in this country.

"The houses are made of straw and sticks".
"These houses are made of brick, they are in a town".
"This must be Kenya, we don't get flamingos in the UK".
"The land is flat and the grass is yellow".
Polar Regions
As part of our inquiry into the wider world, we listened to and read the stories Poles Apart and Lost and Found. We found out that polar bears and penguins don't live in the same place. We looked at the polar habitats.

Rainforests
As we continued with our inquiry into the world, this week we travelled to the Rainforests. We looked at photos and described what we could see. We found out about the animals, plants and habitats in the Rainforests. We created our own rainforests in a jar.
