This module we will be conducting fieldwork around school and begin learning about the UK and its surrounding oceans. We spent our first lesson finding out more about fieldwork and how to conduct it. We discussed the stages we would need to follow and thought about what we would like to find out and how to do so.
N.C. Pupils should be taught to; name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas. Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment.
This week, we took our learning outside. We used a had drawn map of the school to find features of the site. We then drew and labeled what we saw.
This week we started learning about the UK and the countries it is formed of. We learnt about famous landmarks in, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. We also learnt about the oceans that surround it.
This week, we learnt more facts about the UK countries, their flags and how the UK flag was designed.
In this module, we will be learning more about the UK and the towns, cities and villages within it.
In our first lesson, we we able to locate the UK countries and their capital cities on a map.
In our next lesson, we learnt about UK landmarks. We then used Google Maps to help us locate them in the UK and our map reading skills to plot the landmarks on a giant UK map.
Next, we compared town and country settings and thought ]about what it might be like to live there.
This module we are learning about maps and our local area. In our first session, we used Google Maps to find features in Hoo. We discussed features we already knew and used this knowledge to find them on the map.
In our next session, we learnt about ariel photographs and created ariel drawings of our classrom.
Next, we thought about the features we see on our ay to school and drew simple maps.
Finally, we learnt about cardinal compass points and made up silly rhymes to help us remember them. We also used them to help us find objects on a page.
This module we are using fieldwork to learn about our locality and then will use the information we gather to compare it other locations.
In our first lesson we learnt about map symbols and their purpose. We then created 3D maps.
In our next lesson we looked at ways of collecting and displaying data. We used talley charts and pictograms to gather data about our class.
This module we have consolidated and extended our learning from earlier in the year. We have used our knowledge of Google Maps to help us compare land use in Hoo and Sakore where they grow cocoa beans. We also used outlines to create simple plans of our ideal classrooms.
This module we have been learning all about the weather. We have learnt about weather symbols and their purposes. Then we made our own weather maps and usedour knowledge of th eUK and compass points to present our own forecasts. We also learnt about the location of hot and cold countries and what it would be like to live there. We lo learnt about dangerous weather and how to keep safe.
