Our focus this module is, 'Place Value'. We have been practising to count objects and numbers within 10, including counting 1 more or one less and counting from any number.
N.C. Pupils should be taught to: count forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, or from any given number count, count in multiples of twos, identify one more and one less identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least read and write numbers from 1 to 20 in numerals and words.
This week we have been comparing numbers and learning words like; 'more, less, the same' and 'greater than, less than and equal to'. We have participated in lots of practical activities which have involved, grouping, comparing and explaining.
This week, we have continued comparing numbers. We have developed our understanding of greater, less than and equal to and compared groups of objects and numbers. We have also begun learning how to use, 'part - whole' models.
Next, we learnt about number bonds and fact families. We used this knowledge to help us find 'missing' parts and solve simple 'now and then' problems.
In Maths this module, we will be completing our learning on subtraction, beginning to use bar models, learning about 2D and 3D shapes and learning to count in 10s.
In week one, we used different methods to subtract; crossing out, counting up and down and by using a number line.
In week two, we were introduced to the bar model method and began drawing them in our books for the first time. We learnt how to use them for subtraction and addition and were then challenged to use them to help us solve mixed word problems.
In the following weeks, we explored 2D and 3D shapes. We learnt their names, looked at ways to recognise them, compared the, grouped and sorted them. We even made patterns with them.
This module we have been learning about numbers to 20 and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
N.C. count forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, or from any given number count, read and write numbers in numerals; count in multiples of twos, fives and tens given a number, identify one more and one less identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least read and write numbers from 1 to 20 in numerals and words.
Our first topic this module has been, 'Addition and Subtraction to 20'. We have been calculating doubles, near doubles, finding differences and making number bonds.
This module we have been learning about multiplication, division, fractions and geometry.
We have been counting in 2's, 5's and 10's, making equal groupings, finding a half or quarter of a shape and describing different positions such as above and below.
