We started Module 1 by recapping our previous knowledge from Year 1 to see what can have been able to be remembered over the summer holidays. We then kicked off our module by looking at the number and place value of two digit numbers up to 99. Within this unit we explored a range of different numbers and identified their tens and ones, looked at ordering numbers and compared them using the greater than, less than and equals to symbols.
Once we finished looking at Number and place value, we moved onto Addition and Subtraction. We started the unit by recapping number bonds to ten and have been using different songs to help us remember them as we know that if we know them, our lives would be made easier with addition and subtraction! We have been focusing on adding two digit numbers to 1 digit numbers as well as subtracting them. We have been using lots of resources in our classrooms to help us embed our learning further.
In this module we have focused on addition and subtraction. We have spent a lot of time making sure we fully understand how to exchange and cross the ten when adding and subtracting by taking part in lots of practical lessons and using different resources such as number lines, base ten and place value counters.
When we finished our unit of addition and subtraction we moved onto shape. First of all we explored a range of different 2D and 3D shapes and discuss what theyr names were, as well as their properties. Throughout the unit we have explored vertices, edges, faces, sides and surfaces. We also looked at different shapes and what their lines of symmetry were, which we loved doing.
Throughout this module we have learnt about money as well as multiplication and division. Within the first couple of weeks we were able to explore a range of coins and notes within our maths lessons which were super exciting. As we become more confident in identifying and using money, we solved problems linked to giving change.
After a few weeks we moved onto multiplication and division. We explored repeated additions and was introduced to the multiplication symbol. Knowing how this symbol works has helped us with our times tables skills, especially with our twos, fives and tens!
As we moved into module 4, we were becoming more confident in our maths lessons which has been great to see. We consolidated our learning on multiplication and division and then moved onto length and height which was great as we were able to explore the school using metre sticks and rulers! As well we this, we were able to make trandisciplinary links to our art learning by greating some great relief sculptures using measurement. They turned out great!
This module we have learnt about fractions. We have been able to identify fractions of shapes as well as amounts.
We have also been learning how to tell the time.
Module 6 has been a busy module in out maths lessons as have been spending lots of time consolidating out learning, especially with addition and subtraction. We have been introduced to the column method and have been working hard on exploring what the answers could be to some questions. As well as this, we have focused on position and direction, as well as statistics which has been lots of fun.
