In our art lesson this module we have been looking at the artist William Morris and linking it to our lines of inquiry. We have shared our opinion on his artwork and discovered why he was well known during the Victorian Times. We used his artwork to inspire ourselves and have created repeated patterns using the skill of printing.
In our art lessons this module we have been focusing on how we are all individuals by celebrating out differences. With this in mind, we have been developing our drawing and sketching skills by drawing self portraits of ourselves. We started the module by practising a range of sketching techniques, then drawing specific parts of our faces such as our eyes, to eventually drawing a full self portrait. They have come our great!
In our art lessons this module, we have made links to our history and science learning. We have been focusing on the element of sculpture and have designed our own aircrafts, just like the Wright Brothers did in the early 1900s. When designing our aircrafts, we labelled the materials (making links to our science learning) and explained why we have designed our aircrafts the way we have. It was great to invite our parents and carers in to make our aircrafts out of clay. They have turned out brilliantly!
In Module 4 we have made links to a lovely text called 'Poppy and the blooms', as well as our science learning all about plants to make paper sculptures of a plant person. We have been able to do this by developing our skills of what sculptures are. We have designed our plant person and have used a range of colours paper and card to make them.
The children will learn about primary colours (red, blue, yellow) and how they can be mixed to create secondary colours (green, orange, purple) over the next two modules. The children will explore colour mixing through hands-on painting activities, experimenting with brushes, sponges, and other tools. They will create colourful artworks inspired by artists Pier Mondrian, developing their understanding of colour relationships and improving their painting techniques. The unit supports creativity, observation, and fine motor skills.
In module 6 we have been continuing to develop our painting skills. We have been focusing on the artist Linda Lang and how she uses painting to replicate warm and cool colours. Throughout the module we have explored using watercolour paints and have identified what warm colours and cool colours are. We have been able to express out favourite colours and have created some great iceburg paintings.
