This module we have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Victorian Era. We have learnt about what life was like for children during this time and compared the difference between Victorian schools and modern schools. We have learnt the chronology of the life of Queen Victoria and Florence Nightingale.
We also experienced what it would be like in a ‘real’ Victorian school and came into school dressed as Victorian children and tasted some Victorian food, including gruel. We also had a fantastic workshop delivered by Maidstone Museum where we learnt about the different types of jobs children had during the Victorian times.
In this module we have been looking at siginificant individuals and how they have impacted our society. To help us understand why specific things in our world or country is the way it is, we have studied Mary Seacole, Emmeline Pankhurst, Rose Parks and Malala. We looked at why these women are inspirational and what they did to make a change.
To kick start our learning we looked at Mary Seacole and compared her to Florence Nightingale (who we looked at last module). We looked at what she did to make a change and why she had a positive impact when she was alive. We then looked at Rosa Parks and was able to understand why she stood up for herself when on the bus and the movement it created.
We have created fact files about Rosa Park's life, timelines of Emmeline pankhurst and venn diagrams comparing Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale.
Throughout Module 3 we have been looking The Wright Brothers and the First Flight. We have explored the history of flight and how it has evolved over time. Within our lessons we have developed our research and communication skills by retelling information about The Wright Brothers and why they have made an impact today. We have also focused on the chronology of history as well as comparing things from the past and present day. To end our module, we had an exciting visit from a pilot name Zoe who works for British Airways. It was great fun learning about how a plane works and how to land a plane.
In History we have been learning about historical sources and their reliability. We sorted items into primary and secondary sources and were then able to explain what makes a source reliable.
This module we have learnt about the life of Beatrix Potter.
