Lab Objective:
You will understand how to shape dough to get the most pronounced swirl effect.
Lab Goal:
You will make pinwheel cookies with a pronounced spiral.
While you are making your dough you will reflect on what needs to be done to get the best swirl in your pinwheel cookie.
When your cookie is finished you will take a picture of the finished product with you in the picture.
After tasting cookie you will complete the Lab Reflection and upload your product picture to the Google Form.
A pinwheel cookie has at least two colors of dough that are rolled out, layered on top of each other, and then rolled into a log. This process produces a spiral effect when the log is sliced and baked. The larger you roll out your dough the more swirls your spiral will have.
How To Get That Swirl
Step 1 - Roll each color of dough into a large flat rectangle between two sheets of wax paper. Each rectangle should be of the same size because they will be layered on top of each other
Step 2 - Carefully peel off one sheet of wax paper from each dough and place one on top of the other (bare sides together). Try to line up the edges.
Step 3 - Carefully peel off the top sheet of wax paper, without tearing the dough.
Step 4 - Starting on one short end, roll the dough into a tight log. Unpeel the bottom sheet of wax paper as you roll.
Step 5 - Wrap the log tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least a few hours.
