A student whose final attendance is below 80% cannot complete the relevant course nor re-register the course for a year.
Every 2 times of lateness will be counted as a one-hour absence.
Both online and offline classes are all counted as attendance rate.
If Hongik Univ. Korean level C students (Conditionally accepted) do not meet the attendance condition of the institute, the students will be expelled from both the institute and the University.
★ Regarding an official absence recognition: It varies slightly each semester. Please refer to the Information on the 'Academic Schedule' distributed on the first day of the semester.
Check before class if you can access the class smoothly, and get ready.
During class, your attendance will be approved only if you keep accessing online and showing your whole face on the screen.
For online classes, it will be counted as lateness when a student doesn’t log on to the class within 5 minutes. Also, it will be counted as absence when a student's screen is off without a prior notice or when a student does not answer during attendance.
A student must attend the class at a fixed place (It's prohibited to move during classes).
Action that disturbs the teacher's class progression or violates other student's study rights during class (Wearing too revealing clothes, eating food, smoking, sleeping, playing games, etc) is prohibited. If caught, you will be warned or expelled.
Temporary Leave Korea during the Semester: In principle, this is not acceptable. However, in the case that the trip is necessary and unavoidable, it will be decided if you are able to leave Korea or not after counseling with the office
Return Home Country during Vacation: After the completion ceremony, students may return to their home country and come back to Korea no later than a day before the first class of the new semester.
However, in the situation of occurrence of all sorts of contagious diseases such as COVID-19, temporary leave and vacation return are all prohibited.
Midterm (Week 5) and finals (Week 10) are in every semester. (The test date is subject to change depending on the circumstances of the school.)
There may be other tests in addition to the midterm and final tests based on levels.
Students who are absent on the exam or who are caught cheating will receive 0 points on every subject of the same day's test.
Students are not permitted to re-take any tests or replacements for any test missed during the semester.
The grade given for each subject is absolute evaluation (100 points = full marks)
The grade for each subject includes attitude points in addition to the exam grade.
(Attitude points refer to attendance, homework, and other section of each level)
Advancement: If a student's average grade for the midterm and finals is 70 marks or higher and his or her attendance is 80% or higher
Repeating the same level: If a student's average grade for the midterm and final exams is lower than 70, but his or her attendance is 80% or higher
Even if a student's average grade of the test is above 70 marks, in the case that the student's attendance is lower than 80%, he or she cannot complete the current semester and re-registration for the following 4 semesters (1 year) is not available.
Target: Among students who registered for the next semester, scholarships are available for students who move into a higher level class for the next semester as achieving an average grade of 80 or over and set a good example to others.
Types of Award: Top excellence, Excellence, Encouragement (Each the 1st place, the 2nd place, the 3rd place (1 person each) in each level), Effort (The top 10% students in each level)
(When there are students with the same scores, it will be handled in accordance with the internal regulations of Hongik International Language Institute.)
Amount: 100% tuition fee for the 1st place, 70% of tuition fee for the 2nd place, 50% of tuition fee for the 3rd place, 10% of tuition fee for the 'Effort' award.
Scholarship receive period: In the next term’s 4th week (it's subject to change depending on the circumstances)
You can only receive the scholarship by the Korean account under your own name.
If you are selected as the scholarship recipient but withdraw the next term before the next term begins, the scholarship will be canceled.
※ If you complete the higher grade and re-register for the lower level in the following term, you will be excluded from the scholarship recipient.
In principle, taking a semester off from school is not permitted. (However, for particular cases, the director may make exceptions at students’ discretion.)
A student who is granted special permission to take leave must return to school within 3 months. (If he/she does not return to school within 3 months, he/she will be expelled.)
Students who wish to withdraw from the course before the end of the semester must visit the office and fill out a Class Cancellation Form.
Students who have to stop the Korean language course due to personal reasons before the semester finishes must visit the office and fill out the 'Class cancellation form'.
You should submit a 📝「class cancellation form」 and the related documents based on the withdrawal reason.
📝 How to fill out 「Class Cancellation Form」
Among D-4-1 visa holders,
1) If you return to your country permanently: Submit a copy of your flight ticket
2) If you go to the University: Submit the admission related documents
3) ETC: Submit the document that requires from the institute
After the D4 visa holder applies for withdrawal from the class, the visa will be cancelled two weeks after the date of application for withdrawal (All remaining days of the visa will be also cancelled.)
If a student is absent for three consecutive days without giving a prior report.
If a student temporarily leaves Korea any time during the semester without receiving the appropriate permission
If a student disturbs the class progression or cheats or takes the exam in a dishonest way.
If you harm another person or our institute's honor by dissemination of false information.
If a student's absence time is higher than 20% of the total class hours for a course (when a student's attendance of the semester is lower than 80%)
If a student states that he/she cannot complete their studies due to physical weakness
While studying in Korea, if a student engages in a case of receiving a fine of 1 million won or more from the relevant agency such as immigration office or police office for 1) illegal money transactions or 2) identity theft (e.g. illegal purchases a mobile phone under someone else's name, opening a fake bankbook under someone else's name).
During their enrollment, if a student has received official warnings by article 4-3) more than 2 times.
Those who flunk more than 3 times in the same level will be expelled.
(In the case of the Hongik Univ. Korean level C students (Conditionally accepted students), the acceptance of the undergraduate course will also be canceled.)
A student who has been expelled cannot register for our institute for 1 year after expulsion (including the case that a student who passed Hongik University under the ‘Conditional C’ after expulsion).
