Queer in the First-Year

Themed Living Community for FIRST YEAR STUDENTS in Binford Hall.

Mission

The Queer in the First-Year TLC is a gender inclusive and affirming housing option that provides space for transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, queer students, and affirming friends to build community. This community is committed to creating a queer and trans affirming space for all. Hall programming and communal living expectations will reflect these principles and values.

Individuals interested in being a part of this Queer and Trans affirming community will be encouraged to participate in the Queer in the First-Year Program that will be offered to all First-Year students at Guilford (not only those who are living in the Queer in the First-Year TLC).  The Queer in the First-Year Program is a 10-week weekly meeting that will be a place of queer and trans education, community, and activism.

Learning Objectives

This TLC will occupy a portion of Binford Hall depending on the number of registrations received.

While we hope all Milner and Binford Hall residents will be engaged in the incredible opportunities, events and initiatives offered through the Queer in the First-Year TLC there will be no requirements to participate.

HOW TO APPLY

There is a place on the Online Housing Registration  (required for all residential students) where first year students may indicate their interest in being part of the Queer in the First-Year TLC and respond to application questions.

Note that if you make this indication, you'll likely be paired with another individual in the Queer in the First-Year TLC so roommate options may be restricted.

The Online Housing Registration for Fall 2024 New Students will be available beginning March 29 to those attending the admitted student events.  Deadline for best consideration: May 1.
