We are very excited to see all of our students back in the building next week. This week, teachers have been filtering back into the building and it has been so nice to hear about their summers. I know that I am ready to be back after making sure to get outside on our sunny days, managing to go backpacking with Mr. Coffin and getting lots of riding in on the Devon trails. I trust that you have also had a rejuvenating summer and were able to recharge for a new school year. The office is now open and teachers will be starting back at the school officially on Monday to prepare for students arriving on Wednesday, August 30.
In the office you can find any of the following people happy to help you out:
Mr. Klaassen - Principal
Ms. Kruse - Assistant Principal
Mrs. Rudrud and Ms. Shah - Secretaries
Mrs. Kehoe - Learning Support and Counsellor
Mark your calendars because next Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00, the school is excited to be hosting a Welcome Back BBQ for those who are able to attend! This will give families a chance to connect with staff and friends all while enjoying some great food! More information about the event can be found below.
Respectfully,
Mr. Klaassen
We will be hosting a Welcome Back BBQ on Tuesday, August 29th from 5:30 to 7:00 for those who are able to attend.
Please enter through the front doors of the school to find your classroom and teacher.
Students are welcome to bring their school supplies. Their teacher will point them in the appropriate direction to select their locker. Rest assured, lockers are reserved in blocks if you cannot make it that day so your child will still be with their grade grouping.
After you drop off your supplies and/or meet your teacher, feel free to join us by the playground for a hamburger.
We are excited to have the opportunity to catch up with all of our existing families and meet those of you that are new to RMS!
If you are unable to attend, we'll see you on the first day of school!
On Friday, August 25th families can log into PowerSchool to see who their homeroom teacher is and access their schedule. Jr. High students will receive an email from Ms. Kruse letting them know their CTF options for Term 1 by the first day of school. Ms. Kruse will connect with new students on the first day of school to select their CTF classes. *Please note that you will require a Parent Portal to access your PowerSchool account. Should you have questions about setting this up please email Ms. Rudrud.
Note that class placements are made in consultation with the teachers. When classes are set up we follow a number of guidelines. These include:
Ability Distribution & Class Size - the best conditions for an effective learning community is to place students in an environment where there is a range of abilities. We also have to maintain class sizes.
Work habits - Some students work more independently than others. It is best to combine diverse students to create a supportive learning environment.
We are asking for your support in trusting the judgment of our professional staff in setting up the classes. Considerable time is allocated to making the best possible decision. The well-being of each individual is at the center of our decision. We are not able to accommodate a specific teacher request or for friends to be placed in the same class.
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 30th, 2023.
Doors will be open at 7:59 on the first day of school. Similar to previous years, we will be using specific doors for Grade levels. Please refer to the door map for the location of the specific door.
The first 2 blocks of the day will be spent with their homeroom teachers to become familiar and reacquainted with our new school year. Following this, students will begin to follow their regular schedule.
Students can be dropped off in front of the school or at the rear. Students being dropped off on the bus wishing to go through the back doors should use the designated pedestrian zone. PLEASE avoid cutting through the staff parking lot both at the beginning and end of the day.
The health and safety of everyone in our community continue to be a top priority. As we get started with the back-to-school routine, please remember to stay home and recover if you are sick.
School Council AGM: September 26th at 6:00 PM at the school! Everyone is welcome.
For more information please email rms.council@gshare.blackgold.ca
Recesses will continue to be staggered at RMS. The times are as follows:
Elementary Recess: 9:55 - 10:09
Elementary Lunch: 12:20 - 12:39
Elementary Lunch Recess: 12:39 - 12:58
Jr. High Recess: 10:49 - 11:03
Jr. High Lunch Recess - 12:20 - 12:39
Jr. High Lunch - 12:39 - 12:58
Students who wish to leave campus during lunch must have a permission form signed on their PowerSchool account. The expectation is that students leaving campus are going home to have their lunch and should be respectful to the community during their time off campus.
Students are welcome to stay for lunch in their designated homeroom classrooms. Lunch can be stored in lockers. Our nutrition program will be available to supplement students with the food they need. The canteen will be available for students should they wish to purchase lunch.
