Edwin Parr Recipient - 2025
We are thrilled to share some incredible news with you. Earlier this year, our very own Devon Reekie was nominated for the Edwin Parr Award in recognition of his exceptional work as a first-year teacher. Each school division in Alberta has the opportunity to nominate one outstanding first-year teacher to represent them. Among the many strong candidates throughout Black Gold School Division, Devon was chosen to represent our division — a significant honour in itself.
On Friday night, we had the privilege of joining Devon at the Edwin Parr Awards Celebration. There were 23 nominees from across Zones 2 and 3 — two of the largest and most competitive zones in the province. From this impressive group, Devon was selected as the overall recipient of the award for 2025!
Devon’s contributions at Riverview this year haven’t gone unnoticed. His involvement on the Devon Indigenous Council, his incredible personality and ability to build meaningful relationships with students, and his leadership with the Junior Boys basketball team, especially the inclusive and welcoming environment he created, all set him apart from the field.
The Edwin Parr Award is presented annually to an “outstanding first-year teacher” who demonstrates excellence in teaching, a deep commitment to students, and a passion for the profession. Devon embodies all of these qualities and more.
Please join me in congratulating Devon on this well-deserved recognition. We are proud to have him as part of our team and look forward to all he will continue to bring to our school community.
Enjoy your weekend!

Devon FCSS has asked to hear from our Raiders! FCSS is asking for student particpation in a survey, and here is the note from them that may answer some family questions: The Town of Devon values and wants to encourage connections with the young people who live here. We are hoping to better understand how / if you participate in the community, through groups, programs, activities etc.
Feedback and comments ARE ANONYMOUS. Information collected will be complied into one document, so they are not separated out by school or other identifiers. This will be provided to schools and some agencies who work with youth (e.g. library, Family Resource Network, Local Youth Experience). This will only be to better understand your needs, some of your concerns and how we can aim to be of support to you / provide opportunities you are looking for. If the information is made public, it will only be in summary.
ALL questions require an answer - please answer honestly and only complete the survey one time. The survey closes at 11:59pm on Sunday, June 8.
Thank you for your time, it is much appreciated. Good luck with your exams and enjoy your summer!
