Organic Chemistry

Course Description: Organic chemistry is the study of carbon containing molecules. Throughout the course, saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, organic functional groups, polymers and the proper naming of organic compounds are discussed. Towards the end of the course, students investigate different aspects of Biochemistry.

Pre-requisites: Honors Chemistry, Biology

Teaching Methods and Style:

Lectures will be used to introduce topics and important information with a chapter of the textbook.
Labs (Virtual and in-person) will supplement information from the lecture and demonstrate the uses and applications of organic molecules.

90% - Projects and Labs

Grade by Term:

Term 3 = 50%
Term 4 = 50%

Expectations:

Projects and Labs are turned in on Google classroom as a Google Doc.
Projects are turned in to Google classroom as a google slides, docs or sheets.
Hand written work is turned into the turn in bin prior to the due date.
Questions are asked for clarification and to work through difficult ideas.
Class time is used effectively to ensure work is completed and ideas and topics are worked through.
Mini-Lectures will be conducted when no questions are asked.
Labs will be completed online using Labster or completed during class.
Punctuality is important to ensure all information presented is done with all students present.
