Current Event Assignment

Each week, you will be required to submit a current event assignment. These assignments include the following:

• One paragraph summary of your article,
• Answers to the following questions (at least 3 sentences each):
  • How does this article relate back to what we are studying in biology?
  • Why did you choose this article?
  • How does this article deepen your understanding of a topic in biology?

Special Topics in Biology Mini-Presentation

Each semester, you will research and present three special topics in biology mini-presentations.

Project directions:

Step 1: Using an additional reading article as inspiration, choose a topic that relates to one of the themes for the semester. (Right)

Step 2: Answer the following objectives below:

• Describe the career path for this research.
• How does this topic relate to what we are learning in class? (provide three connections)

Step 3: Research the topic for a more in depth understanding in a process journal.

• Use internet resources, books, and additional resources.

Step 4: Create your communication method from below.

For each of the mini-projects, you will need to complete one of the following communication formats for each of the projects (you cannot repeat methods):

• Presentation (10 minutes)
• Paper (5-7 pages in MLA format)
• Model (Model with labels and explanations)
• Poster (30 x 20 inch or 20 x 30 inch, digital, or tri-fold)
• Podcast (10 minutes)
• Diorama (physical diorama with explanations)
• Art Exhibit (5 or 6 art pieces with descriptions, sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, carvings, jewelry, clothing pieces, etc.).

**Other options can be discussed with your Biology teacher, prior to the due date.

Step 5: Presentation to class

In a carousel format, you will present your project to your class.
