que son como su amor, chiquilines;

que son como su amor, chiquilines;

Vida y muerte, violín, padre y madre;

"Becho's Violin" [Literal Translation]

Becho plays the violin in the orchestra,

Looks of a little boy with no teacher,

and the orchestra is no good, it doesn't have

more than a single violin and that pains him.

Because Becho is hurt by violins,

who are like his love, the little ones;

Becho wants a violin that is macho,

that pain and love do not name them.

Becho has a violin he does not love,

but he feels that the violin calls him,

and at night is repentant,

he loves that sad sound once again.

Brown wood butterfly,

violin child who despairs,

when Becho does not touch it and calms down,

the violin plays in his soul.

Because Becho is hurt by violins,

who are like his love, the little ones;

Becho so wants a violin that is macho,

that pain and love can't be named.

Life and death, violin, father and mother;

he sings the violin and Becho is the air,

can no longer play in the orchestra,

because to both love and sing is hard.

Notes

Alfredo Zitarossa composed this song in honour of Becho Eizmendi, the violinist of his orquesta. Zitarroza said that Becho was so embarrassed to be named in a song that he refused to talk to him for a while.

There are some bits I am unsure of

  • Mariposa marrón de madera, [not sure how the mariposa = butterfly fits in this]

Some other versions

Andrew Ryser Szymański points out that it's a milonga campera.

A Canadian composer [Loreena McKennitt] added a middle part in 1991[?] and it became the even more popular Tango To Evora - or Tis Nefelis [Haris Alexiou]

El Violin De Becho - Orquesta De Tango Silencio

Soledad Bravo - Violin de becho

Loreena McKennitt " Tango to Evora"

HARIS ALEXIOU - To tango tis Nefelis (Nefeli's tango)
