"La Chacarera"
Orquesta Rodolfo Biagi c. Andrés Falgas
Recorded on 1940-03-14
Music: Juan Félix Maglio "Pacho", José Servidio
Lyrics: Juan Andrés Caruso
Chacarera, Chacarera.
Chacarera de mi amor,
Si te pido que me quieras
No me contestes que no.
Chacarera, Chacarera,
No me hagas más sufrir,
Si querés tanto a la vida,
Quereme un poquito a mi.
Chacarera, Chacarera.
Chacarera my love,
If I ask you to love me
Don't answer me with a "no".
Chacarera, Chacarera,
Do not make me suffer anymore,
If you love life so much,
Love me a little.
This Chacarera has nothing to do with the Argentine folk line dance of the same name.
I'm not sure why the song is called "La Chacarera" when it is about a particular person. Why the article "La". So I asked TIA - Tango Investigation Agency
Warren Edwardes: It seems that "Chacarera" was the name of a particular famed and popular beauty. So why is the title "La Chacarera"? Why the definite article?
I know that in some Catalan circles individuals are referred to as "La Maria" etc. But I've never come across it in Spanish. Does it happen in Italian regions or Lunfardo or Cocoliche?
So really a grammar question that may lead to another interpretation of the song.
Dani El: It does happen in some Spanish-speaking regions that the article is used before the name, specially in "spoken / informal " language. At least in Chile, it is widely accepted specially for the feminine. In school I was told that use that form for masculine was vulgar, but for the feminine it was ok.
Gabriele De Chiara: Northern Italy mostly.
Warren Edwardes: Piemontese is a lot like Catalan.
