To be able to achieve our goals at EMG - Educations Media Group, our employees must have the right skills for their work tasks. The right competences is a strategic issue and a long-term investment for us. Therefore we strives to be a workplace where everyone is growing on both a personal and professional level. We also want to ensure accountability in our competence development activities so that our employees have the right skills, both now and in the future.
Competence Development might seem easy but it can be hard to actually define what it is. We have put together a Competence Development Policy for you where you can read more about:
Why we work with Competence Development at EMG
What a Competence mean
Who is accountable for what
Have a look at the document to the right.
Running in conjunction with this we work toward being a learning organization where knowledge sharing and internal training is held on a regular basis. Below you can read more about what internal activities we do once it comes to competence development at EMG.
Each team at EMG have a Competence Development budget. That means that each manager are responsible for the teams individual development. If you, as an employee have specific courses you need or like to attend or want to discuss your own development, please talk with your closest manager. As is says in the Competence Development policy, both HR, Manager and you as an Employee are accountable for development in the organization.
Once a year in August we gather everyone at EMG (including the local offices) at Lillsved for two days (usually Thursday to Friday). The days are all about getting to know each other, knowledge sharing and to get inspired for the fall, which then is around the corner. Here we focus on internal competence development sessions and knowledge sharing . We have great experiences and knowledge inhouse that we really should use to develop internally. We usually have different sessions at the same time where you as an employee sign up for the sessions you feel are the most interesting.
Of course you will receive more information regarding Lillsved and the knowledge sharing sessions before it is time to go. 👍
Once a month we arrange "Lunch & Learn" which is a learning circle in the organization. Here we invite managers, employees and interns who possesses a certain knowledge who would like to share or gather knowledge from other people in the company. A session will be for about 30-45 minutes and the Lunch and Learn host will use the time to either:
Give tips and tricks in a specific area
Tell us about a successful project
Or take the opportunity to get input/knowledge from others in the organization
We announce the Lunch & Learn session (the theme) during the Monday Morning Meeting during that week and you will also receive a reminder the same day as the Lunch & Learn session. The sessions will also be found in the EMG Calendar as soon as it´s scheduled. Everyone is welcome to join!
If you would like to be a host of a Lunch & Learn session or have any question or suggestions about it, please get in contact with Frida Björkman at HR 🙂
Hjärntillskott is a serie of seminars that will inspire our work days. These seminaries has been very appreciated earlier in the company so we have extended our cooperation with them for this year, 2020.
At EMG we have X amount or tickets to each seminar so unfortunately we are not able to send all our employees to these inspirational lectures (who mainly are in Swedish) but we are able to send some of our employees. There are usually 4 seminars each year where one of them are an Executive Day which is a day for our managers. But the other three if for everyone in the company. If you are interested in attending any of these seminaries (for a half a day) please let your manager know.
A hackathon is a design sprint-like event for our employees working with software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, domain experts, and others collaborate intensively on software projects. The goal of a hackathon is to create functioning software or hardware by the end of the event.
The Tech department are responsible for creating this creative event each year. If you need more information, please talk with Amita Pai, our Tech Manager.
Learning at Work Week is a unique annual event to build learning cultures at work. It aims to put a spotlight on the importance and benefits of continual learning and development. The Campaign for Learning coordinate LAW Week nationally and offer resources and ideas for learning & development colleagues looking to run creative, innovative and inclusive activities as part of their Learning at Work Week campaigns.
During this week (usually in September) we encourage all employees to learn something new, to inspire everyone to live our purpose about finding an education, and to have fun whilst at work. The week are planned in the Stockholm office with sessions in all kind of training (some online and some in the office). It could be a session in how to knit or making beer. Or it could be a social selling course where you can learn how to sell your brand using LinkedIn. There are no limits and we hope you find something that you can learn more about.
The German team also have their own Learning at Work Week in their office in Mannheim. But of course all our local offices are welcome to join our Learning at Work Week in the head office.
Also: If you have any unique skills that could be interesting to have a session/training about. Please write them in your profile in BambooHR. There are a tab called "Nice to know" where you can specify your skills. Before Learning at Work Week we usually download a report where we can gather all amazing skills we have in the office 🏆
To be able to reach our EMG goals we need great employees. To have great employees we need amazing leaders. That is why we have Leadership Academy! We do Leadership Academy both with internal and external training and of course, we do also have training for all our leaders in Learnster.
