Farewell Year 12s
With the end of Term 3 comes time to farewell our fabulous Year 12s. We wish them all the very best and are so glad we got to be part of their learning journey!
As a farewell to our beloved Year 12s, we decided to ask each some questions!
What song would you want to be your graduation song?
What is your favourite memory from your time at Cooks Hill Campus?
What was your childhood favourite book/movie/show, and what's your favourite now?
What is your biggest goal for after you have finished school?
Missing: Alice, Hamish, Ivy, Sammy & Fin.
Student initiatives
This term, Alice a Year 12 student from Advisory 3 brought the whole school community together through creating a puzzle! Each student in the school was given a puzzle piece to paint and decorate.
Connie is a Year 11 student from Advisory who is passionate about the environment.
This term she organised a cleanup day to help rid Newcastle of rubbish and plastic pollution. Students went from Civic Park to Newcastle museum collecting rubbish from the streets. The most found discarded items included; soft plastics such as chip packets and cigarette butts.
Over 30 students participated in this cleanup and were enthusiastic to tidy the local Newcastle area. Connie states that for her Senior Project she wants to organise a cleanup committee for the general public. This day was one step toward her goal. Next term she wishes to organise a cleanup every 3 weeks. This is a great way to meet like minded individuals and expand social horizons.
Overall students described the experience as a rewarding activity that also helped them to be more conscious about the environment. This kind of initiative and leadership from Connie is extremely admirable and she should be commended on her efforts toward community impact.
This term James, a Year 11 student from Advisory 7, ran an art workshop in his advisory for their senior project about using the 'Loomis' method, a technique for drawing heads from different angles.
James said his motivation for running this workshop was to help others to enjoy art and be more creative.
In the future James wants to go into art and also allied help, such as speech pathology. In the near future he plans on working with Aged Care residents at Badcoe House, and with kids at a local preschool.
James is also hoping to run a workshop again sometime in the Hive. If this sparks your interest, keep an eye on announcements!
This year a bunch of the Year 12s got together to create a Year 12 magazine as a parting gift for their peers! Within in it you can find students' favourite memories, a most likely to section, their goals for life post school and lots of photos.
