Every Friday all students at Cooks Hill Campus engage with Social Action Projects. This is a chance for us to work together to tackle an issue and act in ways that can support others and improve our community.
Last week the Cooking Social Action Group hosted a community breakfast. This was an opportunity to invite mentors, parents and friends to Cooks Hill, giving us all a chance to build community relationships and foster a supportive and engaging environment.
It was great to meet so many parents, carers and community partners. They are play such an important role in supporting the learning of our amazing young people.
Thanks to everyone who attended and to the Cooking SAPG lead by Alex and Cate who made the morning such a success!
Solomon Islands cohort University of Newcastle
Last week, Anni, Marley, Giavannah, Reid and I (Phelissitie) had the opportunity to meet with 25 school and district leaders from the 100 Solomon Islands.
These leaders wanted to learn more about the Big Picture Learning Australia design and to understand what it would take to pilot or create a potential Big Picture pilot in the Solomon Islands.
Our students met these leaders and Professor John Fischetti at the NuSpace building (University of Newcastle) for an afternoon conference.
Students represented Cooks Hill Campus with maturity and professionalism. They spoke to these international guests about their learning, how it can and has been transformational for them and the way in which learning, teaching, and assessment take place.
Educational Reform
Marley, Anni and Giavannah (accompanied by Lucie and Phelissitie) also attended a statewide forum on educational reform, hosted but the University of New South Wales and facilitated by Big Picture Learning Australia.
These amazing students spent the day at UNSW discussing how education can be reformed. They rubbed shoulders and exchanged ideas with leading thinkers, including author Dean Ashenden and Chris Bonner. Verity Firth AM the Vice President of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement at UNSW and Viv White AM, CEO and Co-founder of Big Picture Learning Australia.
It was an early morning and late evening but (Thankyou to Lucie for driving) and excellent opportunity to have student voice heard on this important issue.
Students from around Australia were invited onto the stage to share their personal perspectives and engaged in round table discussions on issues affecting education and how we can reform to provide more inclusive access and better outcomes for all.
Congratulations - students your input is valued and you did us proud!
