Learning Through Internship (LTI)
This term at Cooks Hills Campus, we have a number of students who have undertaken new and exciting Learning Through Internships (LTIs). The TGIF team conducted interviews with a handful of students, and would love to showcase how their experiences are a great example of the benefits that come from undertaking an LTI.
Lily - Advisory 2
Lily has recently undertaken an LTI at Carinya Children's Services Centre (CCSC). CCSC is an early learning centre, focused around creativity and nature. This focus reflects through their approach with the children and style of teaching.
This LTI has exposed Lily to the world of childcare, and challenged her with the opportunity to lead activities with the students. Lily mentioned in her interview that this LTI has influenced her to look into childcare as a post-school pathway.
Lily shadows the baby room at her LTI, where last term she led a painting activity. After a huge success with that activity, she now is undertaking ANOTHER activity with the children, where she will be showing them how to make damper. How cool is that?!
Lily is a dedicated student, which is reflected heavily through her dedication to her LTI. She would recommend LTI's similar to this to other students.
Ted - Advisory 2
Ted, a year 10 student is currently participating in TWO LTI's, demonstrating his determination and passion towards his project.
Ted's project this term is on making a short film on surfing. The two LTI's that he has link directly to his project, meaning he can gather useful primary information for his research.
Ted's first LTI is at Slimes, a well known surf shop in the Wickham area. At Slimes, Ted's day to day responsibilities include interacting with customers, where he articulates specific details on products that customers are interested in, which challenges him to better his communication skills.
The second LTI that Ted has is with Zack Heath, a well known photographer and videographer based in the Newcastle area. This LTI is invaluable to Ted's project, as he will learn all about film making, which he can apply to his project.
Ted explained in his interview that he sees the potential for two mentors through his LTI.
If you are currently on the hunt for a project mentor, consider asking your LTI supervisors!
Johnny - Advisory 2
This term, Jonny has started a new LTI at K Stars in Adamstown, which is a well-known surf shop with multiple stores. This LTI is very fresh, but after only a few days spent at this job, Johnny has expressed his enthusiasm for what could be to come at K Stars.
Johnny's responsibility at K Stars include completing stock take, where he communicates with manufacturers and delegates his time and responsibilities to ensure the shop is up to date on ordering. Johnny also deals with lots of customer enquiries, where he uses his personal knowledge on surfing to communicate effectively with customers to help them find what they are looking for.
Johnny's project this term is on business, specifically e-commerce. He stated that this LTI has given him perspective on business operations, which has contributed to his project. additionally, working in customer service has strengthened his communication skills, which contributes to his ability to communicate effectively in all aspects of his project.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day - Sunday 8th of March
International women’s day is a global day that pushes gender equality while also recognising the achievements of women all around the world. The day originated in 1911 after German activist Clara Zetkin proposed the idea in a meeting of the Socialist Women's International. The original idea behind the day was to champion women’s suffrage, fight for better pay and better working conditions for female workers. Today International Women's Day has become a day of feminism and celebrating the hardships and discrimination faced by women both in history and in today's society. This year's theme is ‘Balance the Scales’, this theme is all about fighting for equal rights and pay for women everywhere.
