Term 4 vision
This term staff would love to see stronger Essential Questions and Products! They would like to see students excited about their learning and making the most of their final term of 2025!
Something our graduated Year 12s commented on in one of our previous issues, was how they wished they took more opportunities during their time here. With that, we at TGIF are encouraging all students to take opportunities! Keep an eye out in Town Hall and Learning Through Internship announcements on CANVAS.
Phelissitie delivered an excellent Town Hall which included guiding questions to help students get the most out of their Personal Interest Projects (PIPs). We've listed them below to help!
Questions to answer:
Is my PIP something I am excited about?
Is my Essential Question non-Google-able?
Do I have an exciting product I can create?
What Outlearning is connection to my PIP?
Who am I sharing my progress with?
Wellbeing groups
Wellbeing groups are a great way to boost mental health, break up the week and make new connections. A reminder that if you choose to be in one, to put it on your Learning Plan! While school can get busy, students should prioritise wellbeing and remember signing up to a group is a term commitment.

Girls on Fire
Already this term there have been a few great outlearning opportunities; one being Girls on Fire! Girls on Fire is a program that helps women and marginalised youth to build personal qualities such as leadership skills and confidence. It also showcases different career fields plus educates participants in how to keep their community safe.
To get a greater insight on the outlearning opportunity, Poppy chatted with Ruby and Breanna to find out more.
What did you do across the day?
We were split into 4 teams, and each team had a group leader, so throughout the day we would complete challenges. After each challenge one team would win and gain points from doing so.
Overall, we just learnt a lot about fire safety and protecting your own home.
What were some highlights?
For me, using a fire extinguisher and putting on the uniforms were some highlights.
Did anything surprise you?
It surprised me that you can get fire alarms for free through the fire station. You can just call them up and they come to your house and install them for free!
What did you learn?
I learnt that small firetrucks typically hold 2k liters of water.
What skills did you gain?
I learnt how to correctly use a fire blanket, and also how to use a walkie-talkie.
Is this something you might want to pursue in the future?
I definitely want to do volunteer work!
What did you do across the day?
Well, for starters, It was very hot that day, so the order of activities were varied. For example: we’d do an outside activity, come back in and do some theory, and just go back and forth. We started off outside, and they gave us snacks which were nice, and we geared up in overalls and jackets and did some relays. There were 4 teams which we worked in, and we mainly carried water back and forth. It was a super supportive environment, everyone was cheering each other on, and we were all getting involved. We did a lot with fire blankets, hoses, water, etc. Towards the end we played out scenarios in our team with the firetrucks; going around the block, using the hoses, etc. Overall it was just super active and very fun.
What were some highlights?
For me, I loved being in the uniform. I also just loved working in teams and how hands on it all was, and I loved helping people!
Did anything surprise you?
I wouldn’t say so, not specifically. The fire extinguisher was a bit iffy, but I wouldn’t say it was surprising. The hoses were hard to connect, so, if anything, I’d say that was difficult.
What did you learn?
I learnt a lot, we were taught a lot of specific / professional names for things, like all the different equipment. I also just loved learning about all the different careers within that space, I found that incredibly helpful.
What skills did you gain?
Putting out fires, using the fire blanket, using the extinguishers, etc, were some of the big skills I learnt. They spoke a lot about preparation for situations involving fires, and taught us how to work and control a situation like that, so that was really valuable too.
Is this something you might want to pursue in the future?
I definitely think so! Once I turn 16 I want to sign up for the SES (State Emergency Service) as a volunteer.

Young Mind Business Awards
During our Week 2 Town Hall we had special guests from Career Links to spruik the Young Mind Business Awards (YMBA). The YMBA was set up in 2017 with the aspiration to reward young people for their big ideas. Plus encourage young people to think like entrepreneurs, express themselves creatively and to have the confidence to showcase their work.
We think this is a great opportunity if any students. You could win money and mentorship!
